Hello Everyone,

I recieved my passport today and got the sticker [immigration one] and also got the COPR. What do I have to do next ? I am already in Canada. I am completely confused as to where I should go and what I have to do next. I would be very happy if someone could guide me through this procedure.

-Thanks Huh

My Situation:

Application sent: AUG 2013
COPR + Passport recieved : 11-06-2014
Location: Montreal [Came for my Masters 2 years and 8 months ago]

Another thing being, I was told I should not travel by buses such as greyhound or Megabus when I go in for the immigration. Is that true ? And When I enter a US border, do I just tell them I am there for immigration purposes ? I am really confused. :(, because I will be entering the US border and I will need to get the stamping from a Canadian border officer, when would I be able to meet them ?

Guys,
I have applied for FSW2013. And I got pass requested. My destination is Ottawa but can I land in Ottawa, while I am living in Montreal and give my address in Montreal as the mailing address for PR card?
Or
can I land in toronto and give them the address of my friend who is living in Toronto?
Or land in ottawa and give the address in Toronto?
What is your ideas?
Thank you
So are you planning on making an appointment to complete landing INSIDE Canada? If so, book the office with the CIC call centre.

If you are planning on landing at a Port of Entry (POE) then that would be the office where you ENTER Canada. Note: you cannot just "go to the airport" and land. You must be arriving on an international flight.

What people often do (like if you are in Montreal) is to drive to the border. Either enter the US OR get an administrative refusal. In either case you want something proving you were outside Canada (they seem to prefer a date stamp in your passport or on an administrative refusal slip). Then turn around and re-enter Canada. Show the CBSA officer your paperwork. They will refer you to the office, where you will cease being a foreign national and start being a permanent resident of Canada.

Hi all,
This is my first post.
I appreciate all the information put in by Qorax and other senior members.
My cousin got her COPR and is planning to go to Calgary. She initially filled Toronto as her landing city and COPR has toronto.
Wait !! - I am not asking the same question.. 8)
I sent her all the information from this forum and what not but she insists on finding an official information from CIC etc. (I tell you all these scientist types.. . ;))
I wanted to know if there is an official cic link that i can refer to and send to her? I did a lot of research and could not find anything on cic website.
Thanks,
newbie!!

This isn't a CIC issue. It is a CBSA issue. I have flown into Canada numerous times and immigration processing is always done at the first airport in which you arrive in Canada. That's how landing occurs as well. Search the CBSA website.

Hi,

My Thai wife and I we're finding ourselves in a complicated situation. She's just got her PR Visa from Singapore, so we should be celebrating right now, but the problem is... It's only valid until August 28th, instead of asking us to do a re-medical the officer in Singapore decided that less than a month was a long-enough transition time for my wife to change life completely. Anyway...

My questions are :

- Is it possible to just land and leave the next day? We'd give the address of my mother (I'm not myself in Canada right now) who would send us the card by courier as soon as she gets it. I'm not afraid of it getting lost, my question is really about the possibility of doing that : landing and then departing the next day or so, and knowing that the PR card is in process.

- Is it really possible to land anywhere? We initially planned to move to Quebec, where I'm from. We're reconsidering that, but that's not the question. We've got the certificate of selection of Quebec. So if she do her landing in Vancouver, is it cool anyway? Obviously, Vancouver is nearer from Thailand than Montreal is...

Your experience and help would be very very much appreciated right now. Thanks.

1) yes she can return anytime but I advise spent atleast a week so she can finish other formalities like health card etc (which will be later helpful)
2) if she got PR on other than Quabac than she can land anywhere (even quabac I have landed to quabac but we need to show further travel if landing to quabac)

Thanks for your answer.
I did more research in the meantime and it all confirms what you're saying. It's possible to land and depart the next day or the next week, before having got the card. And it also seems that landing in, say, Toronto won't be a problem even if she has a certificate of selection from Quebec (the problem seemingly can occur the other way round, though).
On some website, I read that she could also re-enter Canada with a temporary travel document (probably got from a Canadian consulate or embassy abroad) instead of her card, if it remained in Canada.

My parents were sponsored by my brother (living in Alberta) and they got their PR.
Now they are coming to Canada but instead of going directly to Alberta, they are going to break the journey in Quebec.
Its like Delhi - Quebec (stay for 20days) - Alberta.

Now my query is, will there be any issues with their landing. They need to complete all landing formalities. Where the "Record of Landing" will happen in this case.
Should I change their itinerary to avoid any misadventures ?

They are doing journey break in Quebec because I stay here and they want to spend some time with us before leaving to Alberta.

There is no problem with that at all, unless they declare at the airport that they permanently want to stay with you (i.e. Quebec).

As long as they have plans to settle in any other province, they can land in Quebec.

There landing will happen at the Montreal, but they should give your brother's address in Alberta at time of landing (this is where PR cards will be sent), rather then yours.

Hi! Qoarx,

Code:
I had a word with my Consultant & she said we can land in any city irrespective of what is mentioned in the form.
I am not sure about Qubec though. I am now trying to secure a job from here before we land there.
There are few things which we have to keep in mind before we land there, i just scrolled through the cic website which shows the following: -

  • Essential documents
To enter Canada, you will need to present the following:

A Canadian immigrant visa and Confirmation of Permanent Residence for each family member traveling with you
A valid passport or other travel document for each family member traveling with you
Two (2) copies of a detailed list of all the personal or household items you are bringing with you
Two (2) copies of a list of items that are arriving later and their money value
Do not pack these documents in your luggage. Keep them with you at all times.

Before you arrive, you should prepare two copies of a list (preferably typed) of all the goods you intend to bring into Canada as settler's effects, showing the value, make, model and serial number, if the item has one. Divide the list into two sections: the goods you are bringing with you and the goods to follow.

Present this list to the border services officer on your first point of arrival in Canada, even if you are not bringing in any goods at that time.

You can make the process easier by completing a B4 form in advance and presenting it to the officer when you arrive. Visit the Canada Border Services Agency website to download a copy of the Form B4, Personal Effects Accounting Document.

    Disclosure of funds
If you are carrying more than CDN $10,000, tell a Canadian official when you arrive in Canada. If you do not tell an official, you may be fined or put in prison. These funds could be in the form of:

    Cash
Securities in bearer form (for example, stocks, bonds, debentures, treasury bills)
Negotiable instruments in bearer form (for example, bankers' drafts, cheques, travelers' cheques or money orders)
Find out more about your responsibilities to disclose funds either before you leave or once you arrive in Canada.

    Health documentation
Children in Canada are vaccinated—also called immunized—beginning when they are newborns. Vaccinations help to prevent serious infections or diseases.

When you travel to Canada, bring official documents that state what vaccinations you and your family have already had. If you or your child has not been vaccinated, call your doctor or local public health clinic right away.

In Canada, immunization or vaccination records are required for children to enroll in school.

    Other documents you may need:
    Birth certificates or baptismal certificates
    Marriage certificates
    Adoption, separation or divorce papers
School records, diplomas or degrees for each family member traveling with you
Trade or professional certificates and licences
Letters of reference from former employers
A list of your educational and professional qualifications and job experience (for your résumé)
Driver's licence, including an International Driver's Permit and a reference from your auto insurance company
Photocopies of all essential and important documents, in case the originals get lost (be sure to keep the photocopies in a separate place from the originals)
Car registration documents (if you are importing a motor vehicle into Canada)
    Customs declaration card
Before you arrive in Canada, you may be asked to complete a Customs Declaration Card. You must complete this card before you meet with customs and immigration officials, even if you are not a Canadian citizen. If you are traveling by air, it is a good idea to complete the card before you leave the airplane.

    What to declare
Use the Customs Declaration Card to declare the following:

Any items that you must pay duty on, including alcohol, tobacco and gifts that you are bringing in to Canada
Any business goods, plants, food, animals, firearms or other weapons that you are bringing into Canada
Any amount of money more than CDN $10,000 that you are bringing into Canada
Do not use this form to list the personal and household goods that you are bringing with you or are following you to Canada. You will show your lists of those items separately to a customs officer.

    Declare all items
If you do not tell an official that you are carrying items that should be declared, you may be fined or put in prison. The money you declare can be in the form of cash, securities in bearer form (for example, stocks, bonds, debentures or treasury bills) or negotiable instruments in bearer form (for example, bank drafts, cheques, travellers cheques or money orders).
