Hi,

I have a kind of a funny question. Given the seriousness of the amount of applications being returned for unexpected reasons.

When we submit documents can we staple it or not?

No, it's not advised.

Was it mentioned not to staple the documents? Luckily I didn't stapled anything and only used paper clips to separate each documents but I wasn't aware of the 'do not staple'.

I had both of my passports' stamps not in English of French translated, and the translations plus photocopies of all pages plus the certification were all stapled together in two documents (one for each passport). Should I remove the staples then?

The only mention to no stapling I could find in the guide refers to the photographs. But when my sponsor and I sent in the sponsorship application for me, we were told not to staple anything even though there was no written rule (that I remember of, at the time) about that.

I see. Thanks for the info. I guess it's safe not to staple anything then.

Same here, I might as well remove the staples from the translations. Although, I do wonder if that wouldn't make it look unreliable? I don't know...

The way I organize things are using post-its of different colours.

Since it was already stapled, don't remove it. I'm guessing you're not the one who stapled it.

No, it was the translation company. They gave it to me that way.

No do not remove the staples of the translated documents, it is part of the certified translation process.

Please use paper clip to combine your complete documents. However, for translations, keep it stapled.(the translator told me not to remove the staples because that's how it is presented)

My take.
If I were to be checking the documents, I would want to check and arrange the docs in some specific order. Stapling makes it slightly difficult to reshuffle the order. But, the transcripts and say photocopies of passport bio would always stay together, so if they come stapled, I would be happy...
So, I would not want photographs stapled or glued no fun in removing them.
I would like the application with supporting doc bound by paper clips in the order given in the checklist with an explanation for any deficiency or additional documents...
Again, this is just my view...

But it's okay even if I didn't use a big paper clip (actually it's called binder clip) to hold all of my documents together? I have paper clips as separators for each document, none stapled.

I arranged my whole documents in a sequential order and labelled every set of documents so that its easy for CIC officer working on the application to check my file.

Example:

application package
biographical pages of passport
language proof
2 pieces of ID
residence calculator
payment receipt

I used paper clip to group each set of documents:

Here is the link for the type of colored paper clips i had used:

I combined all the documents together using the binder clip.
Here is the type of binder clip that I had used:

Now, i still recommend you to to leave the stapled translations as it is because it is not supposed to be separated or un-stapled because the translator specifically told me the same.
