Well great post. Nothing much for anyone in there. All manipulation for immigration. Why they want immigrants just for population. We are skilled worker and should be provided with basic provision. For doctor opp are there in US, Aus and Uk. Better place than Canada in every aspect of life.

Cheers

Not excusing the inadequacies of the "Canadian System", but one has to acknowledge the great strides that have been made over the years to ensure IMGs in Canada continue in their line of profession. Few years ago, it was alot tougher. It benefits everyone, the government, the individual and the communities when there are trained & competent doctors in the system. Hence, I do not see why one would think Canada just wants medical professionals for "population reasons" (whatever that means). It's true that just like any risk in life, some immigrants willl be worse off, while some will do alot better....that's why under the skilled worker program, there's the "Adaptability" factor. You have to know how/when to adapt to your new environment.

With regards IMGs in Canada, it's a shame because there are only a few medical institutions compared to the US, hence there can only be so many intakes per year. Most provinces have come up with alternate programs which have also helped tackle the issue, but the problem still persists. However, there are lots of ideas and programs in the pipeline to help IMGs immigrate, settle and practice in their field because there's definitely a shortage of trained doctors, and that's a fact!

Hello All,
First of all a great post by Qorex! Thumbs Up to Him,

Well I have a Question? I am applying in the category of General Practitioner and Family Physician Code 3112, I am a doctor and have work experience of 1 Year as Medical Officer in a Hospital Emergency, Wards and ICU. But now my current work experience since last two years is working in a cardiac hospital as Resident Medical Officer. I also have 6 Months of House Job in Gynae and Obstetrics and 6 Months in General Surgery. My question is that Am I eligible in this category (3112) or just I need experience in Local Clinic or General Practice?.

Hi Monni,

NOC 3112: General Practitioners and Family Physicians -is the one for u, unless u have a Specialist's Qualifications, eg. MD.

Dentists: Ditto situation as that of any Medical Practitioner.

hi QORAX
i know u r an expert. but isn't it that Dentist's central body is different to General Doctors' central body? so, how they could be in similar way to succed?

U r right on that... yes the certifying bodies r different, but the process & dichotomy remains the same.

i have a dentist friend in canada who opted to study again, as she feels that it will be an easier route than going through the whole process of getting your credentials certified and accredited. she feels that it's worth it. she looks at studying again like an investment.

hope this helps...

for mds, there are other career options that might not lead you to practice your profession but still be able to use your knowledge in another field, that would not be demeaning to you as a person...

take care and good luck!
