Rents might be similar, but salaries r not. Its way higher, for example in the UAE. And cost of living is at least 50% less. Thats why Canadians r targeting the UAE and all the English teachers there r Canadians.

Dear Marcus,

u have been in Canada for 3 months only! we all were prepared that we would not get a job for at least the first year. you should have prepared urself financially before taking the descion of quitting ur job and move to Canada. best of luck finding a good job.

I live in Abu Dhabi and me and my wife worked in a quite good company. I haven't got my visa - God knows when. ;D We just finished our MR on August and after reading the post of Marcus, it made me realize that I have to think over again if it will be worth it to leave our job for Canada.

But then, came this post of Qorax, thanks the excitement is back!!! :P :P :P I know, it will be hard at first, the grandiosity of life in Abu Dhabi may not be the same in Canada. But the quality of life i know, will be better.

The point is, not everyone will be happy or satisfied, not everyone will be contented in the same level, but we have our own freewill to actually deal with the decisions we make in our lives and I am sure everyone of us will find our ways to it - it all boils down to attitude.

What sort of general labour? My friend was going to be sponsored by a locksmith company (he has also trained as a plumber but hasn't got a years experience) but the company owner let him down. He's super handy so can do most things. And is looking for a way to get himself, wife and daughters over here

Thanx buddy, and reciprocated.
Though 'Mancilla' is still going strong, LOL !

Thanks sir! :)

People need to have an open mind when going to a new country especially if you don't have family or close freiends to guide them through the system. I have done alot of research on living in Canada and so we know it will take hard work and time before we will reap profits, but we are prepared mentally and physically to have some ups and downs in the early stages. cheerup everyone and let us go and grab the bull by the horn.

It's hard to find any jobs in Canada including general labour position especially in Ontario .

there are lots of general labour openings in Alberta

sunsun,
go to paragon security office. Undergo a 5 days training and write later govt exam. Later try as a security guard for $11. Its quite simple to start on a survival job.

I don't think it is that simple. I have had many friends who will undergo more than these 5 days for that security job. I know an electrical engineer who worked for years and he ended after much struggle working in the security.

For those jumping down Marcus' throat, he is only voicing his opinion. I believe many people on this forum prefer for the grass to be greener on the other side but reality isn't always so unfortunately!! I understand his frustration as in Canada, your skills and qualifications are not recognised even when you are from a western country. Most immigrants end up attending tertiary colleges for a number of years to gain qualifications which may or may not get them work.

In Canada, it is more about knowing the right people as Networking is favoured against actual skills and talent. This can be frustrating for a young individual like Marcus who despite willing to take on mediocre roles, is still not finding the jobs. Cost of living is very expensive and most people I find live on lines of credit and credit cards which is not a panacea to one's problems.

Having said this, as in any move to a different country, it will take some years to start to see results so would tell you to hang in there. As for those who are expecting miracles when they arrive, this is just a warning for people to be aware of and not see things through a rose coloured glass. You cannot keep being blinkered in your outlook as this is what then brings about the shocker on arrival.

What one can take from Marcus' experience is to ensure that you are prepared for anything and not expecting too much too soon.

Good Luck to all.
I AGREE WITH U ...THOSE PEOPLES POSTING HERE SO MANY VIEWS .... THOSE PEOPLES R GOT JOBS .......BY REFERENCE .......................UNDERSTAND . ONLY WAY TO GETTING JOB IN CANADA IS NETWORKING NETWORKING AND NETWORKING THAT'S IT AND SKILL AND EXPERIENCE IS NOT MANDATORY IN CANADA

That sums it. It is all about favoritism and whom do you know?

I dont agree with you

its easy to get a job but to progress in a job get promotions etc requires skills

lots of people say that its only networking, influences, etc cause they beleive that once they land everybody will fight to get him

thats the BS that 80% of the immigrants have in the brain ( I Had the same) but i started in the lowest possition in the company that brought me to canada having to do crappy shifts and dealing with a dush manager thatr had no knowledge or talent at all

3 years later I clibed up to be the manager of my departmen got a offer from a competing company doubling my salary

i could of cried back then and said that Canada sucks cause I had toi do 12 hour days divided in 4 shifts or that I was loading trucks at -40 when Im a Engenieer with 20+ years of experience and multiple awards in my career

bu I said I came here to work and prove myself I knew it was not gonna be easy and I did it

now Im supper happy established
