Agreed!
My suggestions are simply intended to help people not give up so easily and get comfortable on welfare, and also so people don't simply keep their Canadian passport or PR card as on option. They are clogging up the system for legitimate immigrants. I am simply asking that Canada hold people in the economic classes accountable for contributing to our economy and not draining it of resources.
Exactly.

I don't think any one will give up Canadian life without making a genuine effort . Majority of the immigrants who go through the whole process of immigration and waiting for years will definitly try hard to stay there ... In my case if I am atleast 50% Successful as I am now in the middle east , I will definitely stay ....

I have read your link
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/story/2009/10/28/canada-emigration-c.html
These are some of the comments in the link

I left Canada 11 years ago because there were so few jobs available for medical researchers. I got a great job in the UK with only a phone interview and I've been employed ever since. I'd never have left if I could have found as good a job in Canada and the same happened to many of the students I trained with. It's a terrible waste of money to train people through a PhD and then not provide them with the jobs so they can fulfill the investment made in them. And yet I miss 'home' all the time!
I've been living in Australia since last January, coming here with my girlfriend, who after two trys gave up on Canadian Med School and enrolled in an Australian insttution which was only too happy to take her (no surprise with her 96th percentile MCAT score, Masters in Aboriginal Health Promotion and $40.000+ tuition)

Because Canada didn't provide her with the opportunity she wanted and Australia did we moved here and our Canadian subsdized degrees (I have a masters in Science and Engineering) came with us to benefit Australia's economy rather than Canada's
I don't think most of the cases mentioned in this link took a Canadian exit for getting free Canadian health care or other benefits .....

The report found that immigrants from wealthy countries tend to have high exit rates following a brief stay, whereas people from less wealthy countries or countries with political stress tend to leave after five or more years of residency in Canada.
The 2nd half of the people stay there just to get their new passport and then exit ....

I don't think people who exit go back to Canada just to use their free health program or other benefits .

I don't think people who exit go back to Canada just to use their free health program or other benefits . they take the permanent card or residency just to have an extra option in case smthg happened in their own country at least that applies to alot of lebanese... alot of the people who have residency are back to beirut and for them its just an emergency passport no more no less.. and honestly they dnt deserve it and it should be revoked. if you take the whole trouble of applying moving there and living for at least 3 years i think it is worth to give more than a shot. i know alot of these people like they go dnt even work there just take alot of money from here with them lives there for 3 years get their passport than come back

Agree. It is easy for those who have never gone through immigration hardships to criticize immigrants.

I'm glad you're not the immigration minister!! you guys *you and the jeep guy) just want to make things tougher for newer immigrants because you came to canada before us and got your citizenship. you wouldn't be saying the same stuff if you were a newcomers to canada...anyway i'm glad that you aren't part of CIC, canada would be a nightmare if you guys were making the rules here.

I think you all miss the point is that Canada does not owe anything to immigrants. You immigrate to escape the poverty and/or political unrest in your countries or origin. Canada provides a safe and progressive environment in which to live your life. Having a PHd does not guarantee you a $100000/year job.

Your other option is to return to your countries of origin and join the revolution to remove theocratic dictatorships and build your own secular democratic society.

I fully support an immigration process but not for those who want to take it for granted. Immigrants who get their visas and run back home will eventually return when they are old and require expensive medical care. Canada is not your sugardaddy.

we understand, and we are not that type of immigrants..you can be assured that we are genuine immigrants. so you are probably addressing the wrong audience...

Sorry. I wasn't speaking to you directly. I'm sure 95% of all applicants are immigrating for all the right reasons. Its the immigrants and immigration consultants who lack the moral capacity to not take advantage of the system.

I laugh when I read that labour costs are too high. Wages have decreased over the last 40 years. In fact they don't even match the rate of inflation. What has increased are the incomes of the very rich.

People immigrate for lots of reasons, not just to escape poverty or political unrest.

And I think Canadians, the vast majority of whom are either immigrants or decendants of immigrants do indeed owe sonmething to new immigrants.

The system should be fair, just, respectful, and difficult for either side (immigrants and IO's) to abuse.

The Harper government recently tossing out thousands of applications is an example of something that shouldn't happen and I realy do believe Canadians owe immigrants a better system than that. As a Canadian taxpayer I think I deserve a better imigration system that what we currently have too.

I agree with you in part but there should be no expectation for immigrants that the hard work of establishing yourself does not end at the aquisition of a visa. They will still have to make adjustments to find their success. Even those of us born here have to do that. Canada provides the opportunity of a fresh start it does not guarantee success. My comments about Canada not owing anything to immigrants refers to the complaints from people who can't find work in their fields or do not want to take equvalency courses to meet Canadian standards.

Immigration is incredibly important to this country. Without it our population would barely grow at a rate to sustain itself. The major centres would be overburdened while the less desirable parts of the country would dry up. Indeed our immigration system is lacking significantly. I think the success of forums like this prove that there is not enough info for the public to understand how it all works.
