Before you make any move do your research well. Not to disappoint you but I have known many engineers in different fields none of them have found an engineering job and they hold US/UK and few with Canadian graduate degrees (in Alberta).

Hi yy1gc,

I suggest that you pick up a few large call centers and go to their HR dept in person with your CV. You can find some large centers here
http://www.centredappels.ca/

I got a job by giving my CV in person at a job fair to a company representative. I never got any reply to online applications though.

I find this strange that engineers can't find work.

I thought the same thing! My fiancé works in the training department of a construction company and they are always hiring immigrants - they have employees that purely deal with PR sponsorship!

Getting a job here is not easy. Moreover, what really intrigues me is the people's dishonesty in posting the jobs. They advertise for a full time and when apply for it, they say it is part time. If people are serious about jobs, then they should start exploring better options like Alberta.

I am afraid mopping floors at Walmart was not a joke but a real case scenario which already happened in the past :D once you land here, you will realize how competitive the job market is and how sceptical employers are to foreign workers. Obviously, this does not mean that someone should not come to Canada. But people should come having downgraded their expectations as much as possible.

Regarding online applications, indeed I never got any calls after online postings. I got the job by talking to the company at the job fair and handing my CV.
Ok I did meant it's a joke or something. its just that I had gone to through this odd jobs in UK already, took it as a learning curve. but
Only thing striked me when i read the line was "we are not done with this floor mopping business yet" . its like a certification in every country.

For everybody, if you have a fantastic job in your hand don't sacrify it and get landed to canada. The job market situation in CANADA is horrible and the government does no help that much. What they aim to is to let you wast your saving by landing to let the economy to flourish. If your saving last they will try to support you but their support is not that enough and they request to sacrify all assets you have including your small house in your country to be eligible for government support. Again be careful at least keep you job and let your family land and leave them there until the situation gets more clear to you.

Do you really think a country with Canada's vast resources is running a scam to rob individuals of their livelihood and property? Immigration offers the opportunity for people to achieve more than they would in their country of origin. The government looks at your skills and education and determines that you are qualified to get gainful employment. They do not promise you a job.

It is certainly not an easy thing to leave everything that you know to relocate to another country/culture. Though every immigrant has to realize that they are starting over and that can be a humbling experience.

Nice racist stereotype. Try being a Canadian and apply for a job in Chinatown or any of the ethnic centres in Canada.

Maybe take some English classes and improve your language skills. Take night courses at a community college.

I have friends in Canada, who really made it,one of them is a bank manager, other one owns a construction company...and so many others that made me think about immigrating to Canada and I will.....when they got there they were only refugees coming from a war torn country, they didn`t knew any word in English!!!

My opinion is that living to Canada is not a right but a privilege.

So as Mandie noted...why are you still there?

Every one who thinks that Canada is bad should harden up and take the business seriously.
It may be your first job mopping the floor....the second one may be the one you are qualified,be prepared to sacrifice!!
