At a glasnce the steps to become a dentist in Canada:
1- Assessment and Document Verification:
o Assessment: Registration for Exam = 500 (One time)
o Starts May 2011 and ends 9th Sept. 2011.
2- Assessment of Fundamental Knowledge
o Exam = CND 600 (16 Nov. 2011 deadline)
o 300 MCQ's
o 2 books: each with 150 multiple-choice type questions.
o Each book is given in a three (3) hour session.
o The sessions are held in the morning and afternoon of one day
o Exam date = February 4, 2012
o Basic Sciences & Clinical Sciences
o 75 score is PASS
o After passing, register for Clinical Exam before 16th April 2012= CND 5500 "4000 for ACS and 1500 for ACJ"
3- Assessment of Clinical Skills
o ( Pass – 75) – 9,10 June 2012
o 2 day exam covering following procedures:
- Class II amalgam preparation
- Anterior composite resin preparation
- Composite restoration of prepared class IV
- Full metal crown preparation
- Restore a prepared tooth with a Class II composite and amalgam
- PFM crown preparation
- Endodontic access preparation
4- Assessment of Clinical Judgment:
o June 11 "3 rd day"
o Books 1A and 1B:
o Diagnosis, Treatment Planning and Clinical Decision Making
o Patient histories, dental charts, and diagnostic casts will be provided for patients of all ages, including those with special needs.
o Book 2:
o Radiographic Interpretation
o MCQ's using photographic prints of dental radiographs, will evaluate the participant's knowledge in oral radiology and ability to make a radiographic interpretation and diagnosis.
5- Equivalency Process Complete:
o Now Licensing Exam is last step: Pass is 65
o NDEB – National Dental Examining Board
o Fees: Registration - CND 400
o Written + OSCE = 700 + 900= CND 1600
o Written Exam: 300 MCQ's - Basic + Clinical Sciences
6- OSCE
o The OSCE is a station type examination comprised of a morning session and an afternoon session on the same day.
o The majority of the stations will have 2 questions and will require the candidate to review the information supplied (e.g. case history, photographs, radiographs, casts, models) and answer MCQ's.
7- Finally, a Certified Dentist in Canada!
