Because it's ambiguous. It's up to the officer to decide. They've rejected common law applications for being apart for 2.5-3 weeks, for example. Also the poster said 2 months, not 3 weeks.
Right, but since you answered my question "1-2 weeks", I'm asking why is it a problem in 3 weeks vacation.
I think this is a case of: do you want to be right or do you want to be approved? Just because you know it's a vacation, and just because you know you fully intend to reside in Canada permanently, does not mean IRCC will necessarily see it that way. There's no hard and fast rule because it's going to be up to the judgement of whatever officer you get. In the original example, I could see how spending 2 months in another country with your spouse (albeit for the perfectly reasonable situation of visiting your newborn child) could be seen as you attempting to sponsor from abroad as a PR.

Once again - it's ambiguous. It is not defined. You could have an officer who decides that's too long - that's the whole point. As I already stated I would never take a risk longer than 1-2 weeks. Do you really want to find out if it's a problem when it's too late and the officer has decided against you? You have to weigh the risks.
Do you ever feel like you’re repeating yourself? We had the same debate in the November thread with somebody that wanted to go for 2-3 months and they just couldn’t grasp that there’s a massive risk involved.

This forum sure could do with a moderator and a stickied thread breaking all of the most commonly asked questions.

Thanks. One more question....Do we need to pay for medical and where to pay them? I didn't have the option to pay for medical when submitted the application.
You pay for the medical at the clinic of your choice. Prices differ across the globe.

Between this forum, reddit, and admin-ing for the Facebook groups, that's pretty much all I do. I have answers saved that I just copy paste to cut down on time.

I feel like this is the tragedy (ha) of these threads being so big they have to be devoted to each month's applicants -- you just have a whole bunch of newbies together reinventing the wheel over and over. (That said, it would be awesome if people learned how to browse older posts or use the search function before doing a drive-by to ask the most basic questions... )

As grateful as I am personally for more experienced members like @kcward7 and their attempts to stave off the constant dissemination of misinformation, I don't know how they don't lose their minds completely correcting the same mistakes over and over!!!

Ha. I feel like I'm at least helping people, I guess. I have a solid full time job helping fortune 500 companies make strategic business decisions and sometimes feel like I'm not contributing to anything meaningful so helping members here gives me a little of that purpose. That and also being rejected when I applied due to my stupid lawyer was a good motivator to stick around and help out. :)

I’ve heard some absolute horror stories about immigration lawyers... I couldn’t have someone in control of my account, it’s a borderline addiction to check ECAS / GCKEY at the moment :p

I met a couple on the plane to Canada last year that we’re going through the process and had hired an immigration lawyer. They’d literally just got PR after 2.5 years of their application being sent back, not once... not twice, but three times due to the lawyer using the wrong forms.

Now I’m not saying they’re all awful but they’re definitely not necessary if you follow the guide to a tee.

Bar that, there’s plenty of people with complaints if you have a good browse of these forums.

Iknow it’s not necessarily to hire a lawyer immigration as long u follow the right guide.
But with our case is different I am out of status for long time. Ihave no choice to hired a lawyer immigration but in our case we don’t have any problems. My sister got her PR for 1yr without status. Mine is processing still... I should recommend our lawyer immigration lol

Well I had called CIC regarding the same question, if I could leave Canada for a vacation? And the reply was I can travel however I should be in the position to submit any kind of documents requested by CIC.

However I am sure, some other CIC agent would have a different theory for this question..lol

I wish this ambiguity would be solved by CIC at some point! It is unfair that neither do they issue Visitors Visa for PA and neither the Sponsor can leave Canada.

Well all I can say is the situation is totally dependent on how the officer would perceive..Its all about luck!!!
