We are almost done our sponsorship / permanent residency stuff!

YAY! took us about 5 weeks to gather all the docs, and get it all done. I'm a Canadian, living and working in South Korea since 2008, wife is South Korean.

I'm only worried about one particular segment:

Question:

"Intention to Move to Canada"

We included: a "Letter of Support" from my parents, basically stating that we are able to live with them and they will support us, if necessary, without hesitation, upon our arrival

+

A Relocation strategy... our specific plans, written down on a 2 page document.

Since we are leaving in September, I basically told them that I'm going to do my best to find a job over on this end via the internet, that we are saving cash, and that we have a plan of attack once we get to Canada.

Is that good? what did you include for your "intent to move"?

We don't have a house purchased, and it's far to early for us to have a rental agreement, nor are we returning to school upon our arrival... so I'm a little worried that my "proof of intent" might be weak?

Let me know your thoughts?

Hi Marticus!
Welcome and congrats on almost being done the sponsorship package!! I'm not very knowledgeable on that topic of 'intent to return'...hopefully a more senior member can assist if you make a forum topic on this item :)

Goodluck!!

My husband and I did the same thing. My husband (the sponsor) is a Canadian citizen by birth and he has been living in Germany since 2008. It is almost impossible to get a job in Canada now, since we don't know when we'll be able to move there. We agreed to stay together throughout the process.

We just sent a letter from my mother in law, saying she will offer us housing and financial support once we arrive in Canada until we can establish ourselves. My husband also wrote a letter explaining our plans of seeking employment in Canada. I read all sorts of horror stories, being refused for the inability to show "intent of return". To me, this is mind boggling. A Canadian citizen, born and raised in Canada, who's been away for 6 years due to work reasons, does NOT need a reason to return to his home country. But CIC thinks otherwise.

Other people suggest:

1. Contact a real estate agent in Canada and inquire about housing - Print the email convo and include it in your application (it shows intent of return)
2. Apply for jobs in Canada - also print the emails you receive from prospective employers (even if it's a refusal)
3. If you have children, contact schools or kindergartens in Canada and print the emails you receive from them or the one's you sent

I hope this helps. My husband and I didn't do any of this. Just the letter from his mom and another letter where we explained our plans.

Thanks Avadava for advice ~

With your submission, did you / have you received any problems?

With your suggestions, I've thought of a couple additions I can add:

1.) we have contacted shipping companies for our pets to be sent back home
2.) I've been searching a few websites, that have jobs frequently posted pertaining to my degree - would that be a good thing to print off those job offers? even though, it's still quite early for me to be actually applying for them?

We didn't have any problems so far, my husband has just been approved to sponsor today and our application was sent to the VO. From my understanding, there have been cases where the intent or return to Canada has been scrutinized by the VO, in second stage of the process - concerning the immigrant.

I would include anything you can conjure before you apply. Print those job postings, maybe your browser history too. It can't hurt.
