LANDING

IS IT TRUE THAT WE HAVE TO PROVIDE A LIST OF OUR PERSONAL BELONGINGS WHICH WE WANT TO BRING TO CANADA?
SHOULD WE LIST EVERY SINGLE THING IN OUR SUITCASE?

They want to know what personal items you're bringing in, so you don't have to pay duties on them when you first land in Canada.

We had most things shipped ahead of time and the customs officer allowed me to estimate the value of the categories of items instead of every individual item.

yes it's true :) noo not every single one; categories mostly - clothes, shoes, household etc....but the ones with higher value (jewelry, electronics, traditional things, furniture?!) should b listed in more detail; as Jay said the purpose is not to pay taxes....

also u will list the goods which u have with u and also u can have a "goods to follow list" in case u shipped things which will arrive after u; for those goods also u r tax exempted ;) :)

Is there a limit for weight of suitcases when we want to land? Or what about gold and jewellery?

how can we ship things in other way? I mean i thought i can only carry what i can to bring with plane! Is there another method?

even if it's not addressed to me, i say that the weight limit depends on each airline....try to pick one which still lets u with 2 suitcases (example KLM)...Swiss Air or Air Canada allow one suitcase only, anything extra u need to pay...for the airline it does not matter that u land or not, u r a traveller like everyone else, so they apply the same conditions...as for the jewelry i don't think there's a limit, unless u have looots and bring it for trade ;) :P

yes u can ship; u will ship boxes i assume and the post offices or courriers offer these services....we shipped boxes through normal post....that was some time ago and it wasn't as costly as today....maybe there r other ways....we didn't know much LOL

EDIT: one more thing - it's actually cheaper to ship than to pay overweight on the plane; also u can pay for an extra luggage for the plane but i don't think they let u have many more suitcases; "buying" the extra luggage it's still better than having to pay for overweight ::)

Anyone who applied early months of 2011 receive any PPR from Ankawa,Turkey ?? Family member had his email address that was included in the application for permanent residence hacked. An email was sent by him to the VO in Ankara to notify them of this and included the new email address in the email in case they needed to contact him by email. They replied back by saying they will reply by a minimum of 25 days or so since they are "busy". ( He applied since January of 2011..Meds and interview both completed in December 12 2012) Waiting for PPR now :)
