Hello everybody. My name is Yahya. I am trying to sponsor my wife who is currently in Syria. (I am from Montreal)

On August 24, 2011, I have met the requirements for eligibility as a sponsor and my wifes application for permanent residence was sent to Damascus.

My first question is: Why when I check my application status on the CIC website, it says "We received [My wife's name]'s application for permanent residence on June 29, 2011.". Should I start counting the months from August 24 or June 29?

My second question is: What should I know about this sponsorship? I mean the situation in Syria is clearly not very good right now so how does that affect my sponsorship application? Is there anything I can do to speed up the process? Is my application being sponsored at this time? When should I expect an answer?

My last question is: Is there any way my wife can come to Canada before her application is fully finished (and accepted hopefully)? Is there any way I can get her out of there?

Thank you very much for any response in advance.
Yahya
hi yehya and welcome to the forum

1st the date that u should start counting from is on ur wife ecas file when you press on Application Received link
2nd about the time only god knows when they will call or ask for the RQ and rest of the process
3rd we all have the right to apply for a vistor visa if u get lucky she will get it. non of the the case in Syria are processed faster because of the situation there unfortunately
good luck my friend and stay positive :) :) :)

Hi everyone
I just wanted to wish you best of luck. Remember that the worst part (waiting) is almost over for you guys and hopefully you will hear good news from VO soon. I just filed my wife's application and we have a long waiting time ahead of us but seeing your uplifting attitude is heartwarming for those of us who are at the beginning of the road. :)

Thanks for your kind words :)
Inshallah it won't be too long of a wait for you and your wife...we always like to hear good news here!

Welcome to the forum :D
To answer your questions...
1. You start counting from when the file was received in Damascus. Not when you first sent the whole application in. When it got to Damascus that's when it starts.
2. No one knows when they will get the visa...there's no way to speed up the processing time. The only thing you can do is wait :(
3. She can apply for a visitor visa. The chances of her being accepted are very low as a visitor should want to return to their home country. So if she's already wanting to immigrate to Canada and leave her country, she probably won't get accepted as a visitor. No harm in trying though. Another way you can see her is if you go to visit her in Syria. You can only do this if you are a Canadian citizen. If you have been sponsored or you are a PR, then you have to stay in Canada for the duration of the process.

Good luck!
