just to inform some people that might be at the same boat as me. I applied for my wife's sponsership on Oct. 20 and they processed my file on Dec.16 I spoke to CIC today and they told me my file never made its way to Damascus and it's still in Ottawa and as of right now they are just keeping them thier for further information. I also asked if they are processing the files from Ottawa and she said no we are temp. on hold.

Step one increased to 74 days again.....no official announcement yet regarding the change of embassy. 5 days from now will be the 1st of Feb and by then I hope Damascus clarify everyone regarding the status of the files.

Hey guys. When I submitted my sponsorship application, I included the "medical exam" of my wife that she took in January 2011. It's been 1 year now and I havent heard anything from the embassy or from anybody.

Should I tell my wife in Syria to re-do a medical exam??? I have to know this in advance because my wife is in Homs and going to Damascus to do the medical exam is not easy so I'd like to know in advance...

Thanks!

Hi I sent my application on Dec. 20th, 2011 and it arrived Dec. 21st, 2011. I received confirmation of the application and an email stating they have received it on Jan. 13th, 2012. My wife lives in Iraq and I want to get her out of the country as soon as possible before shit goes down in the region. What options do I have to speed up the process or to figure out what they will do to my application. I am hearing that they are closing the embassy and afraid this will make my application take even longer. I am hoping to have my wife here before July,2012.

honestly yahya we all renewed our medicals before they asked, my wife's medical expired in september 2011 we redid it december 2011, mostly everyone did it before they ask, it saves time,
i have a question for you, has your wife contacted the embassy for emergency processing? if you remember our dear friend ramz got her file processed in 7 months because her husband was in syria, he went to the embassy and they processed it as an emergency,

To be honest there is not much to do. I am sponsoring my husband who also lives in Iraq and I have already sent out an email to the embassy and no reply. Cause I also believe the situation in Iraq is as bad as in Syria if not worse. They have given Iraq's priority but it doesn't make a big difference. Right now we are all waiting to see where our files are going to end up, although from my understanding our files (ones that have been recently applied for), I applied in July and got my approval in October, are in Ottawa and never got sent to Syria. What happens on from there, I am not sure. I wish I could give you better news then this but I can't :(.

Salam aghati,

There's really little you can do other than wait. My wife is also in Iraq an my application has been in Damascus for 10mths with no news. What annoys me is that when you go on the cic website it says Iraqis have a priority and you can obviously see that we don't.

Just be patient and pray that things go well for all of us. I know the situation in Iraq is not that stable either but inshallah our families will be here soon and may Allah keep them safe.

Dear applicants,

I understand that everyone is tired of waiting. I cannot explain how crap i feel about the delays. My wife and i will be apart on our first anniversary :( it is not easy.

What makes fumes come of my head is the following statements on the CIC website.

" Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) knows it is important to help families who come from other countries to reunite in Canada. If you are a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada, you can sponsor your spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, dependent child (including adopted child) or other eligible relative to become a permanent resident."

" Highest priority is given to sponsorship applications involving spouses, common-law or conjugal partners and dependent
children. These are operational, not regulatory priorities."

They clearly don't understand how important it is for people to be with their partners. >:( >:( >:( >:( >:(

Sorry about the negativity but i had to get it out of my system before i explode.

Thanks for the reply Sohrab. Do you think I should send my wife to Damascus to do the Medical exam AND go to the embassy to try to make them process her application as an "emergency". It would kind of be a "two birds one stone" thing. Do you think I should do this ?

Also, what about her police records? I know that police records only last for 4 months. She sent me the police records a week before I submitted the whole sponsorship application. Should she also make a new police record paper?

One last question: Would you recommend me to make my wife try and do a "Temporary resident visa" so that she can come here as a visitor and then do things from here?

I am asking all these things because if she goes to Damascus she must profit the most of the occasion because she won't be able to travel back and forth from Homs to Damascus easily.

Thanks for reading/answering. Much appreciated.
