Hi Vivi happy 6 mths tomorrow i felt so excited when we hit the 6 mth mark too! I don't know if it was relief at having made it six mths or what but it was oddly comforting anyway! It almost feels like we are on the homestretch now!

While waiting for my sponsorship application, can I apply for a tourist visa?

Yes, you can, but the chances are very low. Because it's hard to prove that you have strong ties to your home country, given the fact your spouse lives in Canada

While waiting for my sponsorship application, can I apply for a student visa?

Yes, you can, provided that you have an admission from a well-known canadian university, you should be able to get your visa, but you will still have to go back to your home country when your sponsorship visa is ready. otherwise it may take a while.

how can I contact the damascus visa office if I have a question?

my medical is expiring, what do you think I should do?

Normally you should wait until the officer asks for redoing the test, however, in our discussions, we came to the conclusion that it would not hurt to redo the medical test and have the receipt ready. If they issued the visa and did not ask for the new medical, you have lost only some $200 but if they want you will be at least 5 weeks ahead of the game. In short, it is recommended to redo your medical 2 or 3 weeks prior to the expiration. same applies for police clearance

it stands for Residency Questionnaire. it's a stupid process which is exclusive to Damascus office. They want to make sure if you are still residing in Canada.

provide your detailed information in a posting under this thread, a volunteer will append your info to the list. everyone in this forum is obliged to inform everybody about any updates about their spouse sponsorship applications in Damascus. Damascus office is still active more or less and it is not closed due to the situation in Syria yet. processing time provided by the cic are not accurate at all. when it was 10 months, we had quite a few people who got their ppr in less than 6 months. check out the chart for more info.

is there anything i can do to help my fellow applicants in this forum?

sometimes little things help a lot. Please inform everyone about any change about your application. you may also set your flag to the country you are sponsoring from or sponsored. this will help the readers to analyze your updates much faster and relate it to their applications. for example, if you are from syria and i am also from syria then we can compare our statuses more accurately. and yes, canadian flag is useless because here everybody is from canada

guys im from November ppl and till now know answer about anything, they didnt even asked to redo the medical...and this thing is killing me... they dont even reply to my emails even my wife she sent three emails and know answer... next month i will reach a year... and my medical is already expired two month ago and they didnt ask to redo it.... anyone has the same problem

Has yours been in the Damascus office for nearly one year? Or one year ago you sent in the entire application?
If it's been one year since it's been in Damascus, I would definitely try to contact either the CIC call centre in Canada, or your local MP office. I wouldn't try emailing them anymore, they tend not to reply to it. Since your medical already expired I would suggest re-doing it since they will ask for it, and if you do it before they ask you can just save more time. Have you gotten the RQ yet?

"Please note, if you are successful and a visa is issued you will be requested to send your ORIGINAL PASSPORT directly to the Canadian Embassy in Damascus via commercial courier. Passports cannot be submitted to our offices in Amman, Beirut, or Tehran. DO NOT send your original passports until you are requested to do so. At that time you will be provide with additional information on procedures."

From the day that is on the paper you take to the doctor with you. They write they day that you did it.

I just have a question...on the CIC website my husband's application still says "application received" yet we have already gotten the RQ, paid for the RPRF, updated police check, and military service exemption check back in August...shouldn't it say "in process" by now?

Just to let you know, I sent in my file to Mississauga on May 6,2011, got the approval letter for sponsoring my husband on June 8, 2011. My file is now in Ottawa. Checked my file #, and it says DECISION MADE. Called my lawyer, he said congratulations, it is a matter of days that I will get the confirmation letter in writing and then my husband will have to get his visa....Im shocked, because it has been 4 months and a half....OMG im so happyyyyy. So good luck for everyone, but I think the files that were sent to Ottawa are on the fast track....
So if you wanna add my name to the list, it will be great.

Congratulations ! I had a feeling the files being sent to Ottawa would be done quicker. I really only wish that they had done that A LONG TIME AGO :-(. Oh well everything happens for a reason :-(

Did you get the residential questionnaire ? And is the decision made under the permanent residence application status or Sponsorship application status Tab?

I have decision made but only under sponsorship application status tab and thats because thats the 1st stage approval. Hope its well as you thaught inshallah
