Has anyone renewed a visa since beginning commuting? Are there any new formalities? Also, do you have to go to a CBP center again for NEXUS update?

Yes renewed the visa last year. One good thing is that we can send the passport to consulate without interview and get back the passport. No other changes.
Nexus update: Nothing to update online unless the ID cards change(the ones you provided while applying nexus - such has driving license, PR card, passport). Only to change the country of those IDs(or country of citizenship), you need to visit nexus office as they dont allow it to get it updated online.

Yes there is a dropbox facility, but many do get called for interview especially if there is a company change

You mean in India or even in Canada? I thought drop box was only available in India
Yes in Canada. No, its not exclusive to India.
First stamping in Toronto, had to go for interview, soon after moving in Windsor in Feb2017. During renewal last year they will tell based on the situation(based on the questions you answered in the application/profile in the website) if we can send the passport (with copies of documents to a consular post in Canada) or one should attend interview.

I am doing same on west coast...

No, Your passport will not be stamped everyday. You need to have stamped H1B along with Paper I94 ( If you dont have paper I-94, you will get it while entering by road first time when they send you in, simple process)

You can apply for Nexus here: https://goes-app.cbp.dhs.gov/goes/jsp/login.jsp;jsessionid=HXiyMzGZFokeNFVCReXVTiuXaDG6JviDHRqy92DB6lqm6LzCtnzR!-1135677989

Hi, wanted to ask if anyone who is commuting daily had to renew their PR card once it expires? During your renewal, how do you enter your daily trips on the form? As daily trips are not counted as absent days, do we need to mention those in the renewal form? Any help will be appreciated.

I heard that online calculator omits day trips. Thinking that you need to include your own sheets with daily trip logs.

Will the Canada government still count everyday you worked in US as a day stayed in Canada?
Any partial day is counted as one day. Going today to US and coming next day counts as 2 days in Canada.

Are you planning to do every day. I feel it's little too much of distance for daily commute, it's a 3 hr drive one way. I have known two people who travelled frequently in past, none where daily commuters. One was nurse, she worked usually 3 days week. So she would travel Monday to Thursday. Another guy I knew did Monday to Seattle and back to Canada on Tuesday, work remote on Wednesday, again do the same for Thursday and Friday. That was his schedule for travelling weeks. But he worked remote a lot as well. Tried to keep travelling alternate weeks.

Hi all,

I am moving to Cleveland for 1 year only as a H1-b holder. I am Canadian citizen. My wife and kids will stay in Ontario. I will be coming home monthly by plane and occasionally driving. I will drive my Ontario car to Cleveland. I’d like some advices please.

1. Should I take US drivers license? Could I use my Ontario Drivers license for one year as a H1-b holder?

2. And my car? Do I need to export and in one year time import back it? It’s only one year? Please advise.

3. I have got my nexus card. Do I have to link the H1b visa with my nexus? How does nexus and h1b status work? Do I have to show the petition everytime I cross the border and get a new I94?

Thanks a lot

1. Depends....if you are temporary resident coming back and forth all the time.......you can drive in US with Canadian license. I drove in US with Ontario license for a while. Research with Ohio DMV as well, state by state rules differ as well.

2. You can drive with Canadian plates in US. If you want .....you can import do the plates, title and insurance all in US. Check with your Canadian insurance.....how will that work if you choose not to import. Lot of snowbirds drive in Florida for extended periods without ever visiting Canada in between.

3. When you go to the border very first time, you will receive I94, at that time I think you can request them to link your nexus to the I94.

3. Cont'd. Once you get I94 you can travel on it as you wish. But I would recommend carrying all the documents all the time. Once I was sent for random secondary check, they asked for approval at that time. Even asked for hr contact information to confirm my employment.
