Any senior members,
How long it takes to complete the criminality check? what are the other process needs to be completed by CIC before sending MR?
please advise. I am waiting for my MR but so far no show. Getting sick and tired of refreshing my mail inbox every hour.

We need to pay attention on something else, refreshing mailbox every minute would only kill you...

From what I understand, everyone need to be checked for eligibility=work experience, medical, security and criminality.
For CEC type, receiving medical request means your eligibility looks ok, or at least not being worried too much.

Security and criminality are behind screen investigation, no one really knows how it is.

If you think your time frame is longer, order GCMS and check the files.

Here is the whole stroy:-
Got RCMP request on jan 29th which i already submitted along with my PR application. so replied back on 30th that its already there in the PR application let me know if i need to re-do RCMP. No response received from CIC till today.

So I tried calling CIC call center and their response are as given below.

1. CIC has received the mail which you have sent in response to RCMP this has been updated to my file on Feb 19th 2015. back ground verification in process. Nothing required from you at this time and all looks good in your application.

2. CIC has found the RCMP which was sent along with the PR application has been updated to my file on 23rd feb 2015. Criminality check in progress if no update untill june 2015 then call back CIC again.

So wondering why this takes so long. is there any sequence of steps like Eligibility->criminality->security->background and then MR or Its just random/parallel

You applied in June. The entire process takes 12 months as per CIC process times.
No matter what you do from your side, it's not gonna speed up the process. It depends on the officer working on your case. Be patient & let the process play out.

Look, you are not required to submit an RCMP clearance with your application. CIC has its procedures, which include doing a name-based RCMP check for ALL applicants. You only get a request for a finger-print based RCMP clearance if the name check is not clear (e.g. someone with the same name as you has a criminal record). Maybe you suspected this would happen, which is maybe why you did the RCMP clearance.

But just because you submitted it "in advance" of it being needed doesn't mean they will alter their procedures for you, esp. if the procedures are automated. So, the name check came back with a record, you got a request for the RCMP clearance. It's that simple. Those are CIC's procedures.

If you don't follow CIC instructions, there's no reason to be surprised when things don't work the way you expect. Fortunately in this case, there's no harm.

Hi Jes_ON,
thanks for the explanation. so it looks like automated process would have got that some one with the same name has a criminal record and that why they asked for RCMP request. and so my file would have been set aside untill they get my fingerprint based RCMP which they have got it as its updated in my file confirmed by CIC agent. So untill a VO re-opens my file getting MR is a big question. so have to wait and watch. anyway i have requested for GCMS notes may be i will get that by next week.lets see what it says .... untill then wait wait and wait :D :D

Well, you also have to get it out of your head that there's a set schedule by which all applications are processed. Every application is unique. Each one will take it's own time. There are MANY factors that could lengthen the processing time. Background, criminal, and security checks are highly variable, depending on how many and which countries an applicant has lived in (x2 if there is a spouse), how much "background" a person has to check and verify, etc, how quickly requests for information are processed in those countries, how accurate and complete the info is on the application, etc. etc. etc.
