I just wanted to update again.

I got my case notes, and it appears that perhaps the real holdup in my case was that they needed to do a police check for Canada, and I guess it took a while. This is because I had been a visitor in Canada for over a year by that time, about 1.5 years (I kept getting granted extensions when I asked.)

Not 100% sure on this but looking over my notes this appears to be the case. So I guess for us visitors, we might have to wait a little longer, but that's okay because we get the privilege of being with our spouse/family while we wait.

Wow, that's mental. How could they mix up a state vs. FBI check? They must have meant to mark someone else's account and marked yours instead, or got the docs mixed up.

And no, no one needs a Canadian police check unless CIC specifically asks for it.

Well finally 2+ weeks after emailing Ottawa with proof of them receiving my FBI record and that it wasn't a state report I heard back from CPC Ottawa;

Dear XXXXX,

This is to confirm that we have received the FBI report you provided. Please disregard the last request received.
We do not require any information from you at the present time. An officer will contact you if further information is required.

So hopefully I'll see DM soon? I've heard of others being held up with CIC pulling a Canadian police check if the applicant has been in Canada for some time, I've been in Canada for 16 months so maybe that's the hold up now for me.
I'm just dying to get to work here.

this is my timeline so far

Visa Office......: Ottawa (was hoping for/assuming Sao Paulo since processing is usually extremely fast there and I am from Brazil)
App. Filed.......: 04-10-2015
AOR Received.: 12-23-2015
SA................: 11-01-2015
File Transfer...: 14-01-2016
Med's Done....: 1-05-2015

I have a couple of questions for you guys:
does Ottawa send AOR2 (or anything similar) or is seeing this line under the Permanent Residence side the only sign that Ottawa has my file:
2. We started processing xxx's application on January 14, 2016.
Third line finally appeared today! :)

3. Medical results have been received.

Was getting worried since I had done before sending the application and it took over a month for meds to be "received"

Now hoping that the rest keeps going fast. Do people usually see any other lines or receive anything from Cic before DM at this point?

I feel like I've asked this, but I might have imagined I did because I can't remember the definitive answer. Sorry if it's annoying:

There is NO way to know if Ottawa got the FBI I sent them, short of them accepting/rejecting the app, correct? And by got it I mean it got to the right desk and got joined with the rest of the app. Other than ordering notes, I suppose.

Using the case specific inquiry thing?
The call centre does have access to this information assuming whoever received it made a note of it. But I'd also send the case-specific enquiry as it is more reliable.

Hi,

I've been in Canada for a while too (as a visitor) and I just wanted to know if any other visitor's/applicants have had this problem too? I really don't want to wait so long for PR (I'm getting stir crazy lol!). Base off of your timeline, you filed your app in May 2015 and finally received DM in Feb 2016 correct? That feels like such a long time :(

That's really not the case, lots of people are visitors in Canada and have fast processing times. My husband was in Canada for 8+ years as a visitor and his app was done from start to finish in 3 months 21 days. There is just no way to know if you will be lucky and have a short wait time or a longer wait time.

Is there any consensus on whether submitted materials for when requested as hard copies via courier slows down rather than uploading electronically slows down or delays the processing?

Planning for May 14
This should be taken with a grain of salt, but my sister called CIC bright and early this morning and spoke with an agent named David who informed her that CIC is currently attempting to do a mass push for all 2015 and earlier applications to get them all into the late stages or finished by the end of this month.
