Yes. The application is not finally finished until the applicant lands in Canada and has the COPR signed. That will not happen until the RPRF is paid. In fact, they will not issue the COPR at all until it is. Get a new consultant?

Well Ponga, the previous poster, explained that it can be paid later. And my consultant told me it is not due until later as well. So I'm not sure what to go by. The issue is, not everyone has over $1000 just kicking around. We don't have enough. Paying the $550 is very difficult for us as is (I have a health condition and currently am unable to work). Is there any way this can be paid shortly after? Like a month later? When is the latest it should be paid? We definitely don't want any delays in our application and we want to do everything right as much as we can. So I am just curious how to go about this all. Also, what does COPR stand for? Thanks

COPR is Confirmation of Permanent Residence ( this is usually the final stage of process, once you get the COPR you can then land, and become a permanent residence) Here check out this guide: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/guides/3900ETOC.asp#pay-fee
If you click on Step 3. Pay the fee's it will show you everything you need to pay. Number 1 is the fee's you are talking about paying first, number 2 is the right of permanent resident fee. Which is the cost (if your spouse is approved) of their side of the application. Now you can see they say "Note: We strongly recommend paying the Right of Permanent Residence Fee along with your processing fees. By doing so, it will reduce the processing time of your application" So if you need to pay later it is an option, because if your spouse is approved for stage 2 for permanent residency they will request that you pay the fee. But it is strongly advised to pay upfront. When you pay your fee's you have to include the receipt with your application. So if you were to pay later you would have to send the receipt to the proper location. Therefore causing delays in your application because they wont continue to process the application for your spouse until they receive the payment. That's why most people do pay upfront to avoid any possible complications.
If you keep reading you will see the methods of payment they accept. Whether paying online ( visa, mastercard, american express ) or if you can't pay online they have the option of paying in person at a financial institution. All of the info is in that guide. I hope that helps!

I will pay them each up front then, and just have a hefty credit card bill, because I don't want any delays. So I will pay them both at the same time. What exact spot do I go to for each payment? There are dropdown menus and sometimes I am unsure of what to choose. I am paying in Canada and my husband is Outland. I want to do the app fee and the ROPR fee. I just want to make sure I do everything right. I assume I get two separate receipts. I will just include them in the package. We are mailing everything off early next month. Is there anything I should know about the mailing process and what to choose as a carrier?

While it IS advisable to pay all fees upfront, nobody can say with absolute certainty that deferring the RPRF will add any real delay to the processing time. If you can comfortably pay it upfront, great...but don't stress about having to pay it upfront. Many people have opted to pay it when asked and didn't have any noticeable delay in receiving their CoPR.

Follow the prompts and once you get to selecting what you want to pay you then select Immigration, then you select Family class you can then click all of the ones you want to pay so: Sponsorship application (per application) $75, Principal applicant $475 and Right of permanent residence fee $490 so your total is $1040. I double checked my receipts to make sure I had the right total. When you pay make sure you print out 2 copies of your receipt. One for you and one with your application! That is important.
For sending in your application, it is honestly up to you if you feel more comfortable going with a courier or with canada post. I went with canada post, and made sure I got tracking info on it so I made sure my very important package made is safe and sound to it's destination. Money was somewhat tight for me at the time as well I just made the decision to pay it all upfront so then that was one less thing I had to worry about for the future processing. But like ponga said, you don't have to pay that Right of permanent resident fee upfront, it is just strongly advised just to make things a little easier for your application.

But again...there have been those that have not seen such delays. Even the approval letter says the following:

Please bring with you:
• A valid passport, identity or travel document.
• The Right of Permanent Residence Fee (RPRF) (If not already submitted)
• A photograph for each person in your family that is being processed for permanent residence
in Canada. These photos must meet the specifications outlined in Appendix C of the
Application Guide [IMM 5289].


Granted, the above is from the Inland processing manual, but the `penalty' for deferring the RPRF can't be any worse for an Outland applicant...if there is such a penalty. The RPRF is required to LAND, but doesn't appear to be required for approval to land.

I can maybe see a slight delay (a week or two), but not a couple of months.

Of course...this is just my opinion.

But if it was sent just fine with Canada Post (using tracking) we hopefully won't have any problems either. Just want to make sure it gets there. Is everything sent in a giant envelope that you get at the post office? Since it's a LOT of documents and paper work (ours will be quite thick as the conversation history alone is a lot of print outs). Thanks

We split everything up into three envelopes, Sponsor + Supporting Docs, Applicant + Supporting Docs, and Proof of Relationship, paperclipped anything over two pages (binder clipped large print outs like Skype logs), labeled the three envelopes and took those to the post office and sent in a large envelope provided there. We're in the US right now so I can't speak to using Canada Post, I have read on here about applications being lost, or the delivery tracking takes 10+ days to update.

I just used one big bubble envelope. I just paper clipped and had everything in order the same way the checklist went. Mine was fairly big as well, I had 30+ pages of skype call logs haha. You can get them at the post office, or office supply stores. This is just my experience but I didn't have any issues sending my package with canada post. My tracking info was updated within 48 hours of sending it out. But honestly if you feel more comfortable sending it by courier then do that. With courier you will most likely get it there faster depending on your location. I live in a small town on Vancouver Island, and canada post closes early and doesn't operate on weekends. So it took my package about 3 weeks to get to Ottawa. But it got there no problem and for my location 2-3 weeks is typical to send all the way to Ontario.

Be sure to check the CIC website the day that you plan to mail the application package, to see if they've updated any of their forms...which they do fairly often. If you submit a package with an outdated form, it's quite possible that everything will be sent back to you!

We used the Xpress post service from Canada Post and had no issues, tracking was updated within an hour or so of the package being delivered. I know this because I was obsessively checking it haha

We had each section paper clipped (or binder clip) with a cover page listing what was in each section. Placed it in the order on the checklist.

Hi everyone, I am back. I just wanted to know if I need to pay the $75 for Sponsorship Application (I am sponsoring my husband to come to Canada, and was told that I need to pay two fees - the $550 and $490 (as per our discussion here). I just got confused when I seen the other things on this page: https://eservices.cic.gc.ca/epay/order.do?category=9 Do I just check off those two, or is there anything else I am unaware of?
