Hi everyone, my husband and i moved to Toronto on Dec 25, 2020 and before that we lived in India (Delhi and mumbai). We completed 3 years as PR in Canada recently and thought of applying for citizenship but 3 questions on the application are really confusing us, can you please help?:

1. Within the last 4 years, were you outside of Canada? If yes, provide police certificate for that country- My question is that we were in India from 2019-2020 and then moved to Canada in Dec 2020, do we need to upload our Indian Police Certificate (PCC) from 2019 which we used while applying for PR? If no, what o we provide here?
2. Tax year 2023, did you file your taxes for 2023? My question is that we havent filed 2023 taxes yet but are reay to apply for citizenship, is that an issue? Do we need to file 2023 taxes first and then apply?
3. We became eligible to apply for citizenship a few days back completing 3 years in Canada. Can we apply immediately or do we need to wait for a month more to give enough buffer time?

Please help.

Thanks!

1) As you already provided PCC in 2019 you don't have to provide a new one. The form allows you to specify that you provided the same for PR.
2) You have to say required to file as Yes and filed as No as you will do it later. It does not have any implication as IRCC can check with CRA that you did file it later.
3) If you have lot of travel during your PR days and have documented it properly having a buffer of 1 week is enough. Just don't miss out any travel and go below the minimum needed days of 1095. If in doubt go for bigger buffer of 2-3 weeks.

if you were certain that you have met the 1095 days requirement , then no buffering days are necessary in my opinion

Just going by what you've posted, it sounds like since you moved and you've already completed the 1095 days, that you did not leave Canada at all since arriving in December 2020? Or not very much, like one or two trips of a week or two each?

If so, that's a pretty simple case and probably doesn't need a significant buffer (beyond the time it takes now to fill out the form and submit it).

Make sure to count your days and double/triple check the days count and arrivals/departures. If you've got the 1095+ days and travel history is simple, the benefit of a buffer is likely small - which is more about whether they take longer to process the file while checking departure dates. Simple cases with a few trips to check (or none) probably don't need a buffer or only a small one.
