Does anyone have any experience in having a big cohabitation gap (more than 2-3 weeks) for a common law sponsorship? I have a 6 weeks gap because of work and I am so worry that officers will reject my app because of the break of cohabitation. Please share your experience

The short answer is that it's going to be up to the officer. We've seen people here refused with less than a six week break and we've seen people approved. Anything we say about your application is going to be a random guess. You'll have to wait and see what the VO thinks and does.

I don't know about 6 weeks as this is longer than we had but we had a little less than 1 week and a 2 week gap. They were both for work. We included additional info with flight itineraries showing the dates and documentation showing that it was a necessary trip. For one trip this was a letter from my boss saying why it was mandatory to go on the trip and in the other it was email copies of interview offers. We also included some chat logs showing we were still talking, that the relationship was ongoing etc. We also had a straight forward and strong app.

As Scylla said no one can tell you whether it will be OK or not. You can go ahead and include this period in your common law cohabitation or start the clock ticking after. Just offering my experience.

Hi , im having kinda similar situation but i had only exact 2 weeks so should i include additional paper to tell them why i left for 2 weeks? The reason is that i am back to get police check, birth certificate and same time visit family before my two year waiting time for processing is it strong reason? Thank you so much

It never hurts to include an explanation, so personally I would explain why you went and how long you were gone for.

I didn't even explain the 6 weeks gap on my application. Some people say it really depends on your officer, so I'm just hoping to get a nice officer and he will approve my app.

Like so many doubts and worries when going through this process unfortunately, yes. At CIC, at the border with CBSA, health care... Before when I entered as a visitor it varied at the border between being sent for more questions (various proofs requested about intent not to overstay), to not even being asked how long I was planning to be in Canada or what I was doing here. Anyway...

Good luck with your app! :)
