I wonder if you stay in canada 3/4 years but you don't get a job and live with your own funds, do you still get the citizenship. Or yo have to get job and pay tax. Any comments.

Interesting Question.... Me wait for answer too :)
It doesnt matter whather you do job or not, you should be physically present in Canada to be eligible for citizenship.

Hi, I did not see any discussion about CIC's requirement that you should be employed or engaged in a business to obtain Canadian citizenship.

To be eligible for citizenship you must have permanent resident status in Canada, and you apply for Canadian Citizenship after you have been a physical resident of Canada for three years (1095 days) out of the four (4) years immediately preceding your application.

You will have to demonstrate a deep commitment to this country.

You will need to have sufficient knowledge of either English or French.

You will need to demonstrate your knowledge of Canada and the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship.

You must be 18 years of age or older to apply as an individual.

Hi Traumasurgeon,
I am sure you are evaluating worst-case scenarios but I am sure with your education and motivation, you will eventually be able to get your license and do what you do best.

Chin-up my friend,

Be in Canada for 1095 days with in 1460 days period.

Apply; pass the English and the citizenship exam; attend the citizenship ceremony and then take the oath. You are done.

I see this is pretty old but I leave this reply in case another searches for the same question as I have.I am disabled so do not work I ticked on my form I did not work and i was at home and they rejected it because I did not fill out the employment section so if i were someone in your position I would fill it out and attach a note saying you have lived off your savings or own income and the dates and where you lived. This section is not clear apparently when you are not actually employed, and even though you tick the boxes saying you were not they still ask for the employment grid to be filled out. I am going to now redo mine and put my disability pension in there. All the best to anyone else looking for this.

Hi everybody. I am going to apply Citizenship soon and one question on the form confused me a little. The question is about my temporary status i obtained in Canada before I got PR.

Should I put dates of when I got study and work permits or dates when I was actually studying and working? Because if I will put dates when I was actually studying and working there will be a gap in between but it doesn’t mean that I didn’t have any status (my work permit was already valid), it’s just i didn’t have a job yet right after school.
