It would have been much worse. Remember the Conservatives had changed the citizenship rules when they were in power so that we wouldn't qualify for citizenship until we lived here 5 out of 7 or 8 years and they had revoked the 1 year credit prior to becoming PRs. At least the liberals ensured that we got our 1 year credit and reduced the citizenship requirements to 3 of 5 years. And with the 1 year credit its really 2 of 5 years, which enabled us to apply much sooner. Can you imagine waiting 1+ year to get your PR and then having to live here an additional 5 straight years before you can apply for citizenship. Gotta give em some props. Though the process has been seriously delayed due to the pandemic yes but, I like to look at the bigger picture and think things would have been better save for the pandemic. #my2cents
The conservatives actually changed the rules to 4 years from the current 3, it wasn't 5 years.

Also if you review the details during the short time the 4 year rules were in place, overall processing improved with many getting citizenship on average within 6 months. With the more efficient process people would get citizenship faster than the current 3 years plus 2 years that the liberals put in place afterwards.

Liberals love getting the minority/immigrant and marginalized vote, but in the end it is just about getting votes. They don't really care as the current process and lack of accountability clearly demonstrates.

At least with conservatives you know where you stand, with the liberals you get exploited and abused.

5th year ? that means you applied for citizenship in 2017 ? no way ! Did you run away with the officer's daughter ? He/She is going hard on ye ?

Sorry, fifth year for "physical presence" terms haha. In other words, it will be as if I had to wait 5 years instead of 3 to apply for citizenship if I'm still a PR by March.

https://www.thestar.com/news/canada...b-opportunities-and-wages-applicants-say.html"Delaying citizenship eligibility by one year adversely affected Canadian residents’ wages,” noted the report. “Access to better jobs explains a citizenship premium of 11 per cent in higher wages among naturalized migrants.”recent study by the Inter-American Development Bank .
Nobody can break this mafia .
What frustrates the Ottawa accountant from Jordan most is how a couple of friends who submitted their applications after his actually have been scheduled the exam, one of them is now already a new citizen.
“We certainly need more transparency from the immigration department. We need to know what’s going on there.

One of my friend who came to Canada 9 months after me became Citizen last month while I am still waiting for test. I came to Canada because it is fair and just.
More than the delay, what's bothering most is skipping 2018/2019 applicants and processing 2020 fast just to paint a rosy picture in the media. Whoever made the decision to process 2020 while keeping 2019/2018 waiting, I really want to ask them what's their motive behind it, and do they really think it is fair? It is a common sense to serve the customers in the order (or) at least provide a reason without indefinite pause. Not sure what I am missing here.

reapply put a duplicate application. I will suggest all 2018 , 2019 applicants put a double on them . I am going to do the same next month . Just waiting on notes from Cbsa and CSIS and GCMS. Paper apps are not moving.

is it normal for kids 'background processing' to be in 'in process' while adult 'background process' is completed? My kids background checks shows as in-progress, while my background is completed.

is it same with everyone (or) just my application? I wonder what background check are they doing for 3 year olds?

I wonder if doing that would put more load on the officers. Not taking sides here. System is already overwhelmed, maybe we shouldn't overwhelm it more.

Its default status "in progress" while actually not started(which we can see in gcms notes). So no comparison. Kids application doesnt exactly match the status of parent application hence nothing to worry.

when they start noticing more and more duplicate files coming they will start moving paper files else they will keep working on online applications. Most of CIC officers are working from home, hardly any of them come to the office.

I have the same situation- GCMS shows not started while fancy trackers shows in progress but it also depends on other factors like when was your file updated when were the GCMS notes generated.
I think whatever status shows in GCMS is "True Status" compared to the fancy tracker.

i know... its a fancy status. Its like how we prepare some progress % on the project tasks simply putting 20% because we got tied up with other tasks :)
But here its deliberately default hard coded in the site to make it in progress since the day of AOR, which is height of cheating:D

why do you think they have 2 "C" s in IRCC and CiC . coz they are big time cheat. NASA should send IRCC in a worm hole and send USS Enterprise to torpedo that worm hole to which Mr Spock would say " That was only logical"

Motive: By processing 2020 applications first, they can say they have hit their "standard target" of at least 80% processed within 12 months. Obviously there is no such bureaucratic credit to be gained by working on 2018/2019 applicants.

I think in the new tracker they just changed everything they could to "In Progress", other than "oath", for obvious reasons, just to fool people into thinking that things are happening.
