Canada had last year the lowest new citizenship number in the 4 years!
I'm just curious on how it will look for this year ?! probably the lowest on the history of Canada

Hello all,
Someone named Kathleen Harris from CBC news has posted on a Facebook "canadian citizenship test" group that she is doing a story on cancelled citizenship tests and wants people to write to her on kathleen.harris@cbc.ca.

I think this is the best opportunity for us to raise awareness about this issue and help each other and future citizenship applicants. Please take a minute and write to her ASAP!

Another update:
I encourage everyone to contact your local MP. I got this reply from my MP's office today:

Thank you for your email to Ms. Ratansi’s office. We are here to assist you.

Please provide me with the following information:
  • Your full name and date of birth
  • Your UCI and Application numbers
  • When you sent your application
  • The full names and dates of birth of any minor children included in your application.
Once I receive this information from you, I will contact IRCC on your behalf.

Kind regards,

Thanks for sharing this. I think important to highlight some key themes to her in our emails in terms of lack of communication, no statement or communication on this from elected representatives including the minister, likely impact of 699 leave and how this is causing significant distress for most applicants. Please also highlight how most of us have paid on average around $1,500 for a family package in a world where many are without jobs and deserve a minimum level of services and transparency from CIC.

Also plug for online testing goes without saying. There is no excuse why this should not be implemented. If it is in fact in process of being implemented there should be communication. Also, I know she is likely focused on citizenship testing, important to highlight how AOR is taking around 7 months on average with many people getting their applications returned after this time to reapply for missing a check mark.

I wish not to discourage you folks, but sending emails to MPs or CBC journalists will not do the trick. IRCC is reluctant to change, and the current union cares less about tests at the moment. They have other priorities. If we wish for our voices to be heard, we need a reasonable coordinated protest in many provinces in front of their offices. Hell I am willing to go camp there if needed. The noise we need to make should not be electronic, it should be with physical presence. I am realistic, and I am not asking them to start conducting tests tomorrow, but at least show us there is an official initiative to address this issue.

I am not an activist, but I am willing to work with anyone who has experience with this.

I believe we should try all methods (News media, MPs, Ministers, in person protest). Unless there is some awareness through news media, how will people who want to protest know where to protest? Most people don't visit online forums.

Hi everyone. We should try protest. Otherwise it is not going away. Since march nobody take a test. Government workers are taking their time and full pay cheque. Now a days covid is a excuse for them. We are here as a immigrant struggling and getting stresfull day by day. At least they can start online testing online processing. They do not even do that. It is taking more then year now for sure and nobody know when they start working Everthing is opening beaches patios etc. If someone organizes protest I am in.

Please forgive me here for assumptions but aren't you all permanent residents before applying for citizenship?

What's the big rush?

People have their reasons to get a Canadian passport which allows them to travel outside of the country more freely than maybe their current citizenship passport might do say for work or family visits. Ok travel due to COVID is an ongoing issue but thats a different debate

If you are truly Welsh as per your flag then with a UK passport this is unlikely to be an issue for yourself to rush to get a Canadian passport

PR has to be renewed, which is a hassle (and potentially an impediment) for people who have to travel. Some people also value being able to vote.

I know a few people that need it for work purposes and family reunification, which is perfectly acceptable. Anyone who has legitimate reason for needing urgent processing such as the above has the ability to request such treatment. For everyone else complaining I guess it's just a big inconvenience they didn't anticipate dealing with.

There will be much less complaining whenever IRCC decide how to move forward with testing.
