Citizenship Application (Online)

Hi,

I applied for Canadian citizenship online on 27th Jan, 2021. At that time, the page to apply had a series of questions and at the end of it it told you if you're eligible to apply online. For me it said I was eligible. The link was really hidden and I came across ir by chance. On March, they put the link of the 1st page of their website but used the word' "randomly selected" to define who can apply via online. There is still the same questionnaire, and I still come up as eligible to apply online according to it. But I don't know what they really mean by randomly selected.

Anyway, I applied on Jan 27th, 2021 and still didn't receive my AOR. They are currentlt giving out AORs for applications received sometime in March. But maybe this timeline is for applications received via mail? In which case, what about thise who applied online? I paid the $630 fee as well.

Has anyone applied online and not received their AOR? Or knows about the online application process?

Dis I do something wrong? It's already been 5 months!

I sent mine on Feb 21st and didn't get an AOR, so I sent a webform asking them if they even received it, and here is their reply:
"
Thank you for contacting Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

We have verified the information you provided and can confirm that we received your application. It will be processed according to the date it was received.

When you submit an application to IRCC, verifications are made to ensure that the online application is complete and ready for review, which means that you have:

  • Answered all of the questions on the form, and
  • Submitted all the necessary documents.

Once we have verified that the application is complete, you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt. At the moment, we are unable to provide delays for how long this verification will take."

So it's in the queue to be processed, don't worry :)

Thank you for your reply. The response I recieved from them was:

"Once we have verified that the application is complete, you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt. At the moment, we are unable to provide delays for how long this verification will take."

This tell me they couldn't find my application in their system. It sounds too generic. It wasn't specific to my application. They didn't say that they jave recieved my application has been received and is currently being verified.

But your response at least told me that the online system is a legit thing. I'm not sure what's taking them so long. I thought online would be faster.

They may just process randomly selected ones for AOR and the rest of all online applications might be delayed maybe for few months until they say that they will be processing all the applications submitted online. So, your fee and application have not vanished but it will take a much longer time than the paper one. this is something that I understand from them. IRCC is VERY VERY clear about this on their websites and on twitter as well. So, its not advisable to apply online. This is my understanding.

I don’t think they are randomly picking applications to process. They are randomly selecting people to apply online. If you watch the trend in the December thread, applicants received AORs depending on their date of submission.
I truly believe once you submit an application it will get processed and it won’t be put on a shelf because it was not randomly selected.

Ok, thanks for the explanation. I didn't know this. I dont follow them on twitter, and to me the website blur wasnt clear. I thought my "randomly selected" they meant people who met the criteria (the criteria being normal, like say not people over 50 or under 18). Anyway, main thing is I didnt know it might take longer than paper, then I'd have just applied via mail. They also said on their website that they're looking to open the application to other groups.

Yeah, I thought the random section was that they're opening a "randomly selected group" who can apply online. Like above 18, applying for him/herself, without representation, etc. Because on the website they are now saying that they're looking into opening it up for other groups. I am happy to know that the process is valid, but the main confusion now is that why did the person who applied on 21st feb (1st commentor) get told that his/ her application was received whereas to me they just said something generic like how they verify applications because processing them and how that takes time. Anyway, I filled out another webform. It could just be that I got a different employee answering my query, so they replied differently. Or at least, I'm hoping that's the case as I applied 27th Jan.

There has been a lot of conversation on how it is not RANDOM and people just refresh their browsers and get links to apply. The explanation that its open to people below 50 and above 18 is not called RANDOMLY selected people that is called a CRITERIA like they have set forth that online applications are only open to people applying as signals no family and didn't work as crown employees or their family.

I still don't have any explanation on why people applied on paper in Jan/Feb and Mar have received their AOR but the majority I think mostly like 95% people who applied online have not received AOR yet.

I concur. If you successfully submit an online application then you should be good. If they wanted only "invited" individuals to apply they wouldn't have opened the website up to the public - maybe would've provided some special access or something to that effect to said "invited" applicants. By being invited I'm pretty sure they mean when the link randomly pop us on your screen as how would they know who is planning to apply for citizenship and who isn't? Not every pr wants to apply for citizenship. Hoping for the best!

I applied online on Jan 17th, 2021, and no AOR. On the web page it says submitted when I called they couldn't find the application and I should wait 2 more months and then recheck cause it might have not been uploaded (strange to me). I'm not sure if I should send a paper version or what ????

I called again and sent a webform and no one could find an application so I just sent a paper version this week just to ensure I covered all my basis
Have you received a confirmation email when you submitted your application online ?

Hi Hary,

Any progress on your online citizenship application in Urgent processing. I'm closely following your case as my Imm lawyer submitted my files as well online with urgent processing. It's not moving forward after I received AOR on June 20. I see Paper applications are moving forward.

Please let me know how to move it forward.

Regards
Senthil
