if the gov does not address the issue even after such situation, we are bound to think the gov is senseless, emotionless, n heartlessaks.asr1 said:LATEST UPDATE ON STRIKE: MIGHT END BY NEXT WEEK
The rotating strikes by more than 1,300 Canadian diplomats have been going for about four months, and it is beginning to hurt ordinary people, and potentially, the country's economic well-being.
This is one diplomatic spat over pay parity that we can no longer afford, and the time has come to find a resolution.
The strike began over demands by the Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers, which says its members are being paid between $3,000 and $14,000 less than other federal public servants doing the same work. According to the union, addressing its demands would cost about $4.2 million a year, and the government has apparently made an offer which PAFSO has rejected.
When students can't get visas to come to Canada and study, and when tourists wanting to come to Canada and spend money are getting frustrated with long lineups to get travel documents, it is time for all to take a deep breath and think about the impact of this strike. The tourism association has warned the strike could cost the industry $280 million this year, and Canada's colleges and universities fear it will keep thousands of international students away this fall.
There are even suggestions the strike may be affecting important trade talks.
Now PAFSO has offered binding arbitration to the government and set a Tuesday deadline for it to accept.
Arbitration has a tendency to offer settlements that government institutions can't afford, but it has its place as the lesser evil in some circumstances. The diplomatic corps is not an essential service, but when many people are being affected by this strike the way they are now, the government should strongly consider accepting the offer of arbitration.
Let's end this strife now.

You have all missed the pathology of this government if you think they will accept binding arbitration. The strike will not end next week. The government will not accept binding arbitration because they know the deal they have offered PAFSO is a bad one. They will lose in binding arbitration. PAFSO knows this which is why they wish to prove the intentional maliciousness of the government by suggesting binding arbitration. If they accept they will lose and if they decline they will lose.aks.asr1 said:LATEST UPDATE ON STRIKE: MIGHT END BY NEXT WEEK

Don't u think this is a bit too insensitive to say at this point? Everybody here needs hope. People are hurting and missing their families. If there is some good news offering a glimmer of hope, please don't put it off wit your negativity. For some people its the glimmer of hope still keeping them together. At least you can wait till after tuesday to air your opinion like this. From your timeline, you are already in canada, some of us are stil wishing and hoping and praying. This government would rather lose billions they concede ground to any union no matter how small.
I totally agree with you, even small ray of hope give us strength to deal with this complex situation. It's not easy to pass single day without your loved ones. Everyone should give strength to each other by saying positive things. We all know that there are two possibilities but we need to be on optimistic side. May God give strength to everyone, it's gonna be alright.sweetwine said:Don't u think this is a bit too insensitive to say at this point? Everybody here needs hope. I am not exactly sure how it is insensitive. Canadianjeepguy's comment is a realistic (and quite accurate) portrayal of the current government. It is better to look at the situation realistically than to set yourself up only to have have your hopes dashed.sweetwine said:Don't u think this is a bit too insensitive to say at this point? This comment is realistic but this is not the right time to say this. As the people going through immigration process is taking arbitration in a positive manner. Hopes are not high at all as there are two possibilities. Everyone over here is aware of thing that gov is not at all concerned about family class applicants.costaudjoe said:I am not exactly sure how it is insensitive.
