Here I add my complete timelines FYI:

Applied: Sep 2005 to CIC Manila in the OLD SYSTEM
Received AOR: Dec 2005
Updated documents on April 2006 and February 2007... Both times pressing them to "do something" because nothing was happening (although nothing happened anyway...)

April 2009: Received a letter asking me whether I was still interested in continuing with the application. Replied YES.
June 2009: Got another letter saying that my file will be transferred to CIC Tokyo for further processing.
July 2009: CIC Tokyo said that they got the file.

November 2009: Updated my application (sent forms & photos along with docs supporting additional work experience)

January 10, 2010: Got request to pay RPRF, submit new police clearance and IELTS results, and do the medicals.

February 5: Got passport request, which I sent on Feb 8.

March 8: Got my passport with the precious stamp!!!!

2. How did you receive your passport? Had you sent them a self-addressed envelope?

Hi wpc71,

1. I did my medicals on Jan 13 and the results were sent to Manila on Jan 14.

2. My passport came in a huge envelope (A3 size) along with COPR. The mailman came to my door because it was a registred mail. I didn't send a self-addressed envelope.

Hope your friend gets her visa soon!

hello yachiyo! congratulations!
i am happy for you and you will be landing here in canada soon. my family and i are currently living and working in canada as temporary residents with work permits. we were here since oct of 2007 and before we got here, we already applied as FSW old system too in manila since we are filipinos. i am the principal applicant, a dentist in my country and filed our application on sept 2005 and received my AOR in jan. of 2006 and noted e-cas application in process dec.23,2005. i changed my address when we got here in canada and on nov.2008 i received a letter here from cic manila if i am still interested in our application, i answered yes. and until now i haven't heard from them. what were the documents needed to update? thank you for your time have a good day! living here in canada as real good! people are so nice and my family loves living here.

Thanks for your message. I did my update in Nov 2009 because the Tokyo office requested me to do so. They asked me to fill out some forms again (General form, Background declaration). I also attached a recommendation letter from my current boss (when I applied to Manila I had a different job). Hope this helps you. Have a good day.
