CIC Filing Error?

Hello,

I applied for an outland spousal sponsorship (in June). Well, at least I thought that's what I did! I hadn't heard from them for a few months other than telling me that my application was received in July and I saw others were already getting DM so I called.. and they said my application was filed as an inland spousal sponsorship!

I just sent a request online to hopefully re-file my application as an outland. I know it's much faster as an outland application and I know those are the forms I filled out. I would hate to get requests for more forms if they start processing it the wrong way... Plus I am not even living in Canada anymore! I was waiting back in California because I didn't think it would take very long.. So I don't even know if I would qualify for the inland application anymore.

Has this happened to anyone before? Will they be able to re-file my application and, if so, does that mean my application will be starting over and adding even MORE wait time?

Any advice/ moral support welcome.

I have heard of this. They only found out when cic sent their application back for having the wrong forms. They basically had to start the clock all over on their application. They tried getting help from their mp but no luck. Did you ask the call center what to do as otherwise you may be at their mercy.

Shocking that CIC replaced experienced staff with students and seniors that get 3 days of training.

Yes, the call agent is the one who told me to send them a request online. I'm hoping that since it's at the same office and hasn't been further processed that it'll be ok? It's frustrating because I did all the right things but I'm still the one that suffers for this mistake. I guess I'm glad that I'm not the only one that has gone through this...

Yeah that's so unfortunate. No fair that they're messing with people's lives by hiring unqualified people. :(

I suggest you have your sponsor contact their MP ASAP; they should be able to make sure IRCC acknowledges the problem faster and ask that your app doesn't take longer to be processed because of IRCC's mistake.

Who is an MP and how do we contact them? Sorry I don't know all the acronyms that everyone uses here!

Oh wait I figured out who our MP is here. Silly me, being American and all didn't realize that was a local government thing.

What should we tell them? Are they usually involved with things like immigration?

Tell them that IRCC made a mistake with your file and ask them to inquire about correcting it. Yes, they are involved with things like immigration when a constituent asks for help.

This happened to my outland application as well and I did not find out until my MP got involved. The inland people then put in the outland area however it delayed the process as if I had just sent it. Without my MP's inquiry I would still be waiting.

Ok good to know. I'm really glad I called then! And things are working out ok with your application now? Hopefully it will go quickly for us! I hope to be in Canada by the holidays!! Good luck to you :)
