I am sure there will be a lot of people to help you with getting insurance here [even sunlife could recommend you to a broker] and the OHIP rule for employer insurance is province wide for all insurance companies.r4z4 said:Alhumdulilah my wife's status has been updated to Decision Made... Now we are planning for her trip and I had a question regarding Health insurance. According to my research, there is a waiting period of 3 months to be eligible for health insurance in Ontario. Does anyone know of a good private Medical insurance company in Ontario? The reason I ask is because My wife is expecting and we wanted to make sure she is covered in Canada during the 3 month waiting period.
I have coverage with my employer and my wife is listed in the coverage as a dependent(through sunlife) but there is a stupid clause in their policy that says only dependents who are "residents" are eligible for coverage. When I called them for clarification, I was told that in order for them to cover someone, he\she needs to have provincial health insurance so the employer insurance is useless for her.
Any information would be greatly appreciated.
But you should be looking into this thread http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/important-ohip-eligibility-info-for-all-pr-applicants-residing-in-ontario-t56695.0.html;msg2518001#msg2518001 as you can get OHIP approved before the 3 month period. It involves a little leg work on your end but it depends how much it is worth to you and whether you want to save the insurance premium.
