During a meeting held on 09 November 2016 at Indian School of Business (ISB), Mohali, Chandigarh, India, John McCallum said : "We are gonna announce it in less than a week. It is quite a commitment from a politician. I think less than a week. Let's say in weeks, but probably not many. We are going to give additional points...."

Meeting held on 09 November 2016 at Indian School of Business (ISB), Mohali, Chandigarh, India. Attended by John McCallum (Immigration minister, Canada), Laura Albanese (Immigration minister, Ontario), Lena Metlege Diab (Immigration minister, Nova Scotia).
Highlights of the meeting :
1. Canada wants more immigrants in coming months to grow their economy. And there will be rise in immigrants in future as well.
2. Canada will make it easier for International students (foreigners who study in Canada) to get PR by giving them extra points in Express entry, and reducing points from LMIA and PNP. This change coming very soon, in the matter of week(s).
3. Global talent strategy - faster processing times for High skilled immigrants in IT sector.
4. Reduction the processing time for family reunification (currently 2yrs). Change coming in few weeks.
5. Ontario PNP Entrepreneur and French speaking stream to open soon. OINP Express Entry stream to open in coming days. Working on reducing processing time.
6. Next draws will see more ITAs. 4-5 more draws till 2016 end. CIC intentionally doesn't disclose the date of draws in advance and it will remain like this.
7. Nova Scotia coming with program which will allow international students to take admissions in high schools (11th,12th standard) directly after 10th standard before taking admissions in colleges/ universities.

See I'm all for giving people more chance, but I just don't want it to push back those others (yes, like me) who are just as skilled but suddenly because I don't have a sibling in Canada or paid to take my degree over there, I'm suddenly back of the queue.

Even if the changes are announced it will take time to be implemented. I just don't see a change in the point system this year.

Not gonna lie... What I heard in that video was that students shouldn't be required to get an lmia. So maybe a rule such as "if you have graduated from Canada uni in last 5 years you do not need to apply for an lmia".

french stream to open soon? What does that mean? It is still open as far as I know.

I think they are indirectly encouraging more international students to apply to their universities (instead of them going to other popular univs like in US or any other part of the world), and further giving them extra points so that the students continue to stay and work in Canada instead of moving back after their studies. So it's all a game of attracting younger talent to their country.
