There was one article where they interviewed an immigration lawyer (or so he said), who had apparently worked at CIC in the past. The article was talking about a US-Canadian couple, and he said that the processing time would have been 30 months (or something like that), because they would have to go through LA, and that they would have to live apart for that whole time, because they have to be outside the country.

I burst out laughing at that point and stopped reading.

well if he was really an immigration lawyer, then he would know the only files that get sent to LA are those that require interviews, and those who require interviews are being processed in 12-16 months. NOT the 30 months listed on the CIC site. Family class applications are not the only type of application processed in LA. *idiot* (the attorney - not you!)

wrong sentiment in the article. they received work permit not because of their letter to CIC but because of the Pilot program. again, a misguided article. it doesn't even tell people/applicants that there is now a way to get work permit.

awareness can only be created by proper facts, not propaganda. also most citizens aren't bothered by the CIC. it's not an issue in the election at this point.

Agree the facts should be true and accurate to tell.

Ofcourse if there are delays in immigration and true people are sufferred in the limbo, then speaking the truth to media would'nt matter... at all.. Thats the point......Unless someone has something to hide!!

Also, Its not about elections.....Its about correcting broken immigration system which collectively is possible.. Hope u get my point.

my points were never against you. i was merely pointing against the media which seem to never do a proper background check before posting an article. every article they post is deemed incorrect because of other facts and the value goes down. in the end, it helps no one.

I always assume something is wrong if it's coming from a journalist. If not from inattention to detail but their zeal to twist things to their own agenda.

i think it's really aggravating that the media constantly reports WRONG information. it does not take a us citizen 25 months to get approved. it takes 8-10 at the MOST if done through the outland process. the least this attorney could have done is done some fact checking. of course he's an attorney, so there' s no big surprise he doesn't know what he's talking about. i would be hard press to believe his information about immigrating to the us is full of misleading information as well. also, the grass certainly is NOT greener doing the reverse process. it's not easy to immigrate to ANY country!

edit: i couldn't resist. i HAD to post a comment in the article. enough is enough already!

If this is what you're referring to:
The short answer is no, it’s even worse. If you think 10 to 12 months is a long time to wait from your spouse to be approved, try waiting two years, as an internal spousal sponsorship case in Canada will take 25 months to process.

I suspect that by saying "internal", he meant the Inland application which certainly DOES take about 2 years!

from what i read, he never mentioned anything at all about choosing to apply outland and it taking less than that. yes, i understand inland is horrible and I agree it should NOT take this long. it's just really frustrating that yet again, another attorney is spouting information that is wrong. he doesn't even suggest there is another way to apply, or that it's not the ONLY choice! He talked about both paths going to the US, so why leave out the one path that actually seems to be getting people to be with their spouse in a reasonable amount of time? oh i know... it doesn't help prove his point! If someone read this article who is starting the legwork for the process, they would be sorely misinformed, and wouldn't even know the real options available. Leaving out information just to make your point look good is super irresponsible, especially for an attorney. THAT is my frustration!!!

and what about THIS nonsense? THe guy doesn't fact check and has no idea what he's talking about.

Work permits aside, if you look at “normal” processing times for foreign spouses just to come to Canada, the processing time is easily going to be a year and in some cases such as London, Los Angeles, Mexico or Pakistan up to three years.

a) US applications are not sent to LA (only those requiring interviews)
b) it does not take "up to 3 years" to be approved if an interview is called in LA
b) mexico, london and us applications (processed in OTtawa) do NOT take 3 years!

what? because he said "up to", that should excuse writing misleading information?
again.... grrrrr!

He also said this (if you follow the link in the article that takes you to his blog):

But this policy does not apply to internal applications for foreign spouses. According to Canadian immigration officials our firm spoke with, a foreign spouse with a sponsorship application in process does not enjoy implied status and therefore will not be eligible to obtain a work permit for 17 months.

MANY people have in fact benefited from implied status while awaiting the Inland application, as long as they include an OWP or Study Permit with the application prior to losing their legal status.

I don't fault him for writing that, in as much as I blame the immigration `official' (aka Call Centre person) that he must have spoken with. LOL!

right? how about checking the facts based on what people going through the experience actually face. it's certainly not the same as what is "officially" reported.
