Given your wife’s asylum claim in Canada and Trump you may have difficulty even entering the US. The fundamental problems with your application don’t change in the US. I have been refuse visitor visa in Canada but the raisons was wrong because the officer stated I don't have status in USA and inconsistency on the purpose. I used US Refugee travel document (As I know you can not get US Refugee travel document without to have a status also you can't travel outside without to have status. With the same document I applied this month Schengen Visa and was approved. What I can do to reapply for visitor visa in Canada.

Would suggest traveling to Europe and reapplying when you return.
