Hi All,
i applied for my passport in-person at a Service Canada office. What are my options to check for the status of the application?
Hi,

Option 1) Call Them, difficult to get hold of but with constant attempts you can make it.
Option 2) Send a webform, 99.9% they won't reply (so far another person in the forum and myself got reply stating in process)

The best Option 3) Just ignore that you applied, you will get it when they send it (people waiting for months -Non urgent applications). If urgent call and request for file transfer.

I am logged in now after 5 attempts...163 callers in front of me.

Just curious...
Does someone know if they mention the name of the passport issuing city in the passport? And which one it will be if I apply in person or if I apply by mail? TIA for your replies

Hello all,

just to add “my” story into the mix.

Applied on 11th April at Service Canada location. (General/no urgent travel)
It was stated 11th May to be mail-out date and
18th May to be receive date. (No passport received to date)
Submitted a webform at the beginning of May…until to date no response received.

Reached out to local MPA on 19th May and same day MPA office got in contact with Passport Canada for feedback. MPA got feedback that the my file has been received but nothing has been done on it due to large backlog with mail-in applications even though my file is due to be dealt with. MPA was advised by Passport Canada that a note will be sent to the office to get on it as it is past due. MPA outlined as well other options such as transfer of file in case of urgent travel requirement. I will sit tight for now as my travel is due around mid July only.
So meanwhile I got a follow up feedback from
the MPA office that Passport Canada proactively informed them about the completion of my file and being sent off to printing. Apparently I will be given a tracking number…..I was not aware that this will be sent by using tracking numbers. We will see….nevertheless quite positively surprised should indeed the involvement of MPA speed up the process.

I walked-in at Windsor passport office. Officer was asking me for COPR for whole family to prove the relationship of the parents(while applying passport for my son). I thought marriage certificate and birth certificate would be enough but apparently each officer/office is having own rules as I didnt see anywhere in checklist. Didnt hear from anyone from the forum too.
They accepted the application but I had to fax it after coming back to home.

Only few people in this location after 7am to form the line. I went after 6am and no one was there.

YES.

Under Issuing Auhtority it will be usually the place where you applied (City/town)

then you have city of Birth under Place of Birth (unless requested for exemption which may lead to issues during travel with some countries< the details are on the webiste )

Does a confirmed Bus ticket from Vancouver to Seattle count as proof of travel for in Person < 25 business Day application?

I am logged in now after 5 attempts...163 callers in front of me.
So I finally got through after waiting fir 45 mins...(not bad eh!) and that is where my luck ran out!

The only question from the agent was when am I travelling as you know we are flooded with applications?

Status - "In Examination" (whatever that means!)

I did try to reason out that I need a visa for India and although I don't have an emergency travel at the moment I need my passport to apply for a visa and that take takes time to process so to kindly expedite my application.

He confirmed that he will be sending am email internally and also took my phone number and expect a call back from the team.(Not waiting for that to be honest!)

Also was not sure but suggested to wait for 2-3 weeks and I might get it. Call in again if I don't get it by then.

So like most things these days...WILL WAIT!

Cheers,
NC

Any proof of travel, works. Bus ticket is a ticket, so it should work.

even if you drive, give them some itenary that proves that you are traveling (like hotel booking and all)

What exactly it means if the agent says the file has been expedited? Should I be expecting a call, it was yesterday no call till today. Also the agent said it would cost me $45 but I wasn't charged anything neither did they ask for any card information.

If applying in person for multiple applicants (spouse and child, travel 3-25 business days), do all applicant have to appear for the appointment or just one (with all of the forms and supporting documentation)?

Hi, good to hear you could resolve this. Are you exposed to any additional fees or is this covered by your initial application/submission?
No there was no additional fees when we picked up the passport.

Any recent experiences with downtown Toronto (Victoria St) or North York (Shepherd)?

I'd like to go to the North York location first thing - there is for passport for daughter with 25 days before travel.

And for both of these: the locations listed are on internal floors, I presume that before the office opens one can only wait outside? Not a problem except for the issue of how / if they organize the lines.

Was at Vic St on Tuesday. Got there at 6am, was out by 9:30. You wait outside till office opens. You get activity around 6.30-7am when security starts screening people to make sure you are eligible. They don't check docs at that point, just asking that you are travelling within 25 days or if's for a office transfer or check status of a mailed in application. Latter 2 cases will be split in a different line.
