Applied in person in Service Canada Ontario on 30th March, have been told the passport will be mailed by 29th April.

Wanted to call them after 10 business days to find the status and to my surprise, they don't have any information on the application. He said he could not find any application with the File number or with my credentials.

Is there anything I should do to make sure my application is in the right place?
Similar experience. I applied on Mar 29th and expected mail out date is Apr 28th. But as I called yesterday, they were not able to locate my file. they mentioned that it is normal these days given the load. they are not opening the file till 3/4 weeks after the application is received at SC. They also mentioned that it is definitely going to be delayed. Asked me to call back after 2 weeks from the expected mail out date if I have not received by then. Weird thing is they said that time I may be asked to reapply if urgent travel is required and they would not refund the earlier application.

I applied in-person at service Canada for a passport on March 15, and the form they gave me, says they will be mailing the passport on April 12. Should I be getting an email when the passport is shipped? How long does Canada post take to mail the passport?

Any pointers on this would be helpful and if anyone has walked in and applied there.

Thanks.
I did not apply walk-in at North York there but observed what was going on when I went to pickup my passport.
Walk ins were allowed if you had urgent travel proof but the lines were very bad. also it depends on the discretion of the security who is handling this(if you don't have travel proof) i would suggest try walking in at Kitchener or Bracebridge (if possible) where walk ins are allowed (reported in some threads in this website) even if you don't have proof of travel

Many people don't get their passports on the the expected time. Your application might not have been even processed yet. There is a backlog at passport Canada. The best way to know is to call them.

As CaBeaver suggested, best is to call and ask of your application status. Get prepared to be on hold for 2 hours though. Let us know what did they tell you.

Hopefully this is helpful for those who cannot get a Passport Canada appointment ...

I requested an appointment at a Service Canada (Receiving Agent only) office for April 4th. The clerk who assisted me noted my travel date (30th of April). I was not allowed to request express or urgent.

Today I received my passport (was delivered to my door). Turnaround time of ~7 business days

I believe having a travel date helped but I am genuinely surprised it came this quickly. I am unsure whether requesting an appointment at Service Canada helped as opposed to doing a walk-in

I would encourage anyone with a proof of travel date who is unable to book an appointment with Passport Canada to try this approach.

For reference, I am located 2 hours from Toronto
Did you make the appointment request in person or over the phone?

Kitchener Passport Office doesn't need prior appointments (Unofficially). Most of the folks in the queue were not travelling within next 25 days. It took me an hour to get into the office because there were around 60 people ahead of me. Officer gave me the option to pickup but I declined. If you request pickup, they'll simply count 10 business days from today and will tell you to come on that date. In reality, passports get printed much earlier. So it's better to opt-in the mail-out option. I know many folks, who opted in mail-out option and got their passports in 5-6 business days.
What time did you get there? I'm thinking of this option, probably go for 6 AM with my hot drink and breakfast in hand lol

Hi. I called passport office on 14 April. Wait time was 2.5 hours. The agent informed me that my application was not even put to examination. I applied in person on 10 March , service Canada. I requested for a file transfer as my flight is scheduled for 28 April. The agent confirmed that there is a huge backlog and normal applications r taking 2.5 months

When in service canada, the agent told me that the passport will be issued on the 13th of April and will arrive in the mail by the 22 april.

I applied as a regular applicant on the 16th of March.

Will the passport arrive by the stated date according to the timeline of in-person regular applicants? Or according to the observed trend it will take longer?

Probably it will be longer. The processing time for regular applications may take up to 8 weeks.

Has anyone had an urgent passport request for Vancouver, Surrey or Richmond? I'm flying out the 28th but the earliest online appointment is May 17. Online says the three aren't accepting walk-ins, but online also says to walk-in for a faster appointment if you're flying within a certain amount of days.

Walk-ins are accepted at passport office only two business days before your travel. You can keep trying to find an appointment before (some people may cancel), or wait until 2 business days before your travel date.

That's what I figured. That's a highly convenient way for them to make sure they're able to charge the higher fees IMO.

I am even fine with higher fees, but they should realize that we need visa for some countries which takes time.
