Canada's 150th Year Anniversary - Who is becoming Citizen ?

I'll complete my 4 years in Canada on March 15th, 2017 and planning to send my Citizenship Application on April 1st , 2017. Hope the process will complete in 2017 to become a Citizen on Canada's 150th year Anniversary. Who else is joining the Party ??

Yeah... Canada was formed in 1867... so 150th... My calculation took 1857 into account, a quick mistake... I know Canadian history well.. Thanks for the advise.. Before jumping on conclusion, take into account that other person could have mistaken on date/year. We Canadians talk in a Canadian way.

Me and my wife will complete 1460 days in Canada on March 15th, 2017. Can we send our application on March 16th, 2017 ? or should we give additional 2 weeks and apply on April 1st, 2017 ?. I'm hoping to complete our Oath by July 1st, 2017.

Am I hoping too much or is it realistic and possible with the above timelines for the Citizenship process. Our local processing center is Winnipeg.

You can technically apply the day after your complete your 1460 days. However you will see recommendations from people (including myself) that it is a good idea to add a few extra days of "buffer" if you are not 100% confident for your entry/exit dates to/from Canada and also can provide proof for it all. I applied with ~2 weeks extra and that is a good buffer amount. IRCC will be more likely to give you the benefit of the doubt on questionable dates if you have extra buffer (it helped for me).

If you apply on April 1st, you are basically hoping for a 3 months processing time. That is pretty optimistic... probably too optimistic.

Also in the past, Winnipeg has a history of being one of the slowest offices in Canada. However I think that has changed now. But still, 3 months is asking for a lot.

rajmalhotra7 meant OP will get citizenship during 160th anniversary (i.e. 10 years after the application) due to the massive backlog created by Bill C-6 from 2017.

Thank you for your comments and advice. I do think 3 months processing time was pretty optimistic ... but i'm hoping, since it's 150th anniversary of Canada and CIC might process lot of applications by July 1st, 2017. Also I'm expecting there will be mass citizenship ceremonies to celebrate the occasion. Ottawa is already gearing up to celebrate this event through out 2017.

Can you please enlighten me how there will be massive backlog with C-6 bill approved. Do you have any concrete evidence/analysis/stats to support your comment ?

When C-6 implements around 2017, the inventory will suddenly reverse as if C-24 has never happened. So the inventory will suddenly increase from 150,000 to above 650,000. Considering even with steady increase to 650,000, waiting time becomes at least 35 months. You can image with this sudden inventory increase, waiting time will suddenly increase by how much. If you have some computer science knowledge, you can understand the queue management and the impact of incoming burst.

Not sure how the minister will avoid the backlog. Once C-6 becomes effective, everyone will include those who qualifies under the 4/6 rule and 3/5 rule will be qualified at same time at effective date.

I remember the minister was talking about the drawback of PGP cap limit on first come first serve basic. This produced couriers charging extra fees to get ahead of the line. So those who live in GTA will have the advantage. He mentioned that he will look into solving this problem with the mailing issue. I guess he didn't. He still can't come up with a system that will eliminate the problem. I have one suggestion, lottery system.

The point is, the minister really don't have a clue how to eliminate the backlog of flooded applications. Numbers of applications coming in after effective C-6 date will speak for itself.
