That is good news, I was thinking that she would be limited to staying for only 6 months.

Last question(s):

What is the quickest way to go about getting a criminal backgound check, any private firms that can do it faster than a month or two? - And does the background check have to be submitted with the orignal application or can we add it later, without delaying or messing up the application process. From the sounds of this I want to start the application right away rather than waiting around for a background check and then submitting?

Additionally:

What is the quickest way to go about the medical?
- Do it right away and submit with the application?
- Do the medical and have them start the paperwork?
- or submit the paperwok and then wait for the medical?

Thanks!

Hi there, I would say do the background check before you apply. You'll want to time it the best you can so that you get it back when you're ready to send your application in. It's only valid for 90 days. If you want to send your application without the check, include a note that says you've requested it and will send it once you have an UCI #. The background check has to be done through the FBI - CIC doesn't accept outside companies. My husband had his prints done through his local state trooper's barracks for free, so that's something to check out. We had the check back in 5 weeks.

Also, I would say don't request your background check until you have some idea of when your medical will be. If places are booked up for months, which is sometimes the case, you don't want your background to expire while you're waiting for the doctor's appointment. It's probably easier and cheaper to have it done in Canada if that's an option? My husband had his done in Kitchener - we called on a Thursday, had an appointment for the Monday and it cost $387.50 altogether for him and his two children. I'm pretty sure with an outland application, the medical needs to be done upfront or they treat it as an incomplete application - although I've heard of people getting some leeway with it. Better safe than sorry I think.

Basically, I put my application together keeping in mind that the more they have to request from you, the more delays there are. So while you might get the application to Mississauga sooner, it doesn't necessarily make it go faster if you're leaving things out. Good luck!

The best way to do it is by sending it to the FBI. When you send in your finger prints make sure to send multiple copies to make sure that all of the prints are eligible. If you send in your application without the fingerprints you risk there being a delay and your application being send back to you, so it's not suggested.

I always tell people to send in your FBI request first, and then after a few weeks take the medical and organize the application so that you can send it in as son as your get your medical. The thing is, I think that you have to be in Canada to sponsor her, but I'm not sure... can someone clarify that?

Too lazy to read back through everything, but Canadian citizens can sponsor a spouse from outside of Canada for PR, while Canadian permanent residents must reside within Canada for the duration of the application process.
