status .. Dont want to go through the stress about expiring permits.
Isn't that the same in US? Expiring visas?

You don't get for 6 years straight away i believe. you get in 3+3. Also, your employer needs to be really cooperative for all the paperwork.
After H1, your employer can apply for Green Card but processing times are based on nationality of your passport. For example Indian passport processing time is more than Canadian one. You can check Self petition "Individuals of extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business or athletics" or through special categories of jobs (https://www.uscis.gov/green-card/green-card-through-job).
Also, you can check lottery based GC, maybe you're lucky ? :D

Canada - you probably know about Express Entry point based system and Nominations.

Small correction here. GC processing time is based on country of birth and not nationality of passport held.
Employer can file GC anytime.

US H1 to green card process is total sh1t!! That's the difference between Canada and USA.

Check this out, it'll be fun even if it doesn't help you decide))

True but H1B you will get for 6 years. Seriously confused. sorry if i am not making sense.
On a visa you are at the mercy of employer. If you lose employment you have to exit the country. With a PR you have the right to stay and look for another job. Choose wisely the one that offers you better opportunities, benefits and life style for you and family.

I think I can give you a few pointers that can help as I had to make the decision myself.

USA and H1B is better if,
1. You are interested in a corporate career
2. You already have H1B and a job with a company that treats their employees ok (Ok is the new good :)).
3. You will earn around 25% more in US than Canada and have access to a bigger job market.
4. Most H1s get GC Card in US.

Moving to Canada is better for the following reasons:
1. If you are more interested in starting a company.
2. Your spouse cannot work in USA without an H1B (They can, if you apply for GC and get EAD, but that will lock you with your company for 5 years or pay the GC Fee or something like that).
3. In US, you will be restricted in the jobs that you can apply to when you are in H1. Not all companies or positions are open to H1.

Now if you have a US GC, I don't see any advantage to Canada vs USA. I have seen others make arguments for Canada politically and on security, but I don't think they are that big an advantage. Both are great countries for immigrants and US will always hold the edge due to its economic prowess.

I have decided to move to Canada as I need the freedom to do anything rather than having restricted H1 for another 5 years.

If you are from India, China and Mexico, you will have to wait for some time before you get the GC. This is because only a fixed number of GCs are allowed per country and there is a queue that you need to get in when you apply.
Depending on your profile, you will have a longer queue within the group. There are 3 buckets and the approximate waiting times for Indians are:
1. EB1 - If you have a Ph D - Around 1 year
2. EB2 - If you masters and have good experience - Around 5-6 years
3. EB3 - Others - 10 to 12 years.
All number of years above are from my memory. But the structure is the same for all countries. You can google and find current waiting times.
