Hello,

I'm sure this question must have been asked before, but I am not able to find that thread out.

Once we are arranged an interview date, is it possible to change it if we're not available? If so, how difficult is it to arrange another date? I'm located in Montreal.

Many thanks.

Just call the CIC call centre. They should be able to arrange another date. Landing is rather important though, I wouldn't try to reschedule too much. You won't be able to land later than the expiry of your PR visa (for an outside Canada application landing at local CIC) or the expiry of your medicals or passport.

Landing interviews have dates?? :o
I thought you just landed at a POE and went through customs/immigration at that time?!?!

If you land at a local CIC office you have an appointment. I'm pretty sure you can land at a POE at any time.. but someone who has more experience may need to confirm :)

Oh, maybe I made a mistake as to what "landing interview" means then. I actually applied inland and wanted to know if one can change the date of the interview where you bring your documents to the local office for the final PR decision. I thought it was a landing interview...It would be great to have someone to clarfiy this.

Yes you can, the letter from CIC said that failure to appear for the landing interview may be percieved as lack of interest in permanent residence and your application could be refused. If, therefore, you cannot attend this interview, please write or fax to the office immediately, explaning why.

So yes you can change it, but I would not recommend it since it took forever for them to schedule an interview and god knows how long it will take to reschedule the interview. Personally, I will go there even if I am not feeling well on that day:)

javcil, up until relatively recently there were two types of "landing":

1. At a POE on entry into Canada, with a PR visa. No appointment needed, possible 24/7 at most large ports of entry.

2. In Canada, at local CIC, for inland applicants and refugees. No PR visa (since they're already in Canada), appointment scheduled in advance by CIC.

Recently CIC introduced a third possibility:

3. Applicants who applied through the "outside Canada" route and have a PR visa, but who are in Canada with valid temporary status, can request an interview at local CIC for the landing. In effect, outside Canada applicants can request to use the inland landing route, instead of having to leave Canada and re-enter to become a PR.

Only outland applicants with valid temporary status have this choice - inland applicants have to land at local CIC, and outland applicants outside Canada (or without valid temporary status in Canada) have to land at a Port of Entry.

Whew ... thanks matthewc for clearing that up!

Take warning if you change your date for the interview they will reschedule but i know a friend who did this and they resheduled months later,he had to redue medicals and it was close to the date his pr expired i think it was on purpose. They think you are not that serious and the onl;y thing that should keep you from the interview in their eyes is death.Or a scheduled surgury you waited a year for,,,,,,,get the point

Just being curious, for people who are VISA exempt applying inland, will we receive any kind of PR visa which contains an expiry date?

Thanks.
