I need your help,I was sponsored in 2012 #married,my permanent resident neber came throught till 2016,in March of this year my 3 years undertaking from my spouse will be up,my husband divorced me like a 1 and half ago,
Now I meet someone and would like to get married and sponsor

If you were sponsored and became PR in 2016, you need to wait 5 years before you can sponsor another spouse.

Agreed. If you became a PR in 2016, then you will need to wait until 2021 before you can sponsor a spouse for PR.

Not sure what to do anymore meet a a lawyer few months ago to know my best options,and it's so funny tbat he told me am ok to get married and sponsor my spouse after my 3yrs was up so i went ahead and planned my wedding which is a few months away

You can still get married. You just can't sponsor your spouse.

So I can still get married but ill have to wait until the 5yrs is over before i can put in his papers for sponsorship,and is my 5 years strated to count from the day I got my permanent resident. .

You can get married any time you want, but I hope sponsorship isn't the reason.

Count 5 years when you got your PR, so 2021.

Unfortunately the lawyer doesn't understand immigration rules correctly. You were given wrong advice. Your wait time is 5 years (not 3 years).

Yea for sure i can see that i was totally mislead,now am all confused,and my wedding is already planned for summer this yr

Maybe the lawyer was just trying to get your business knowing the application would be denied? There have been quite a few people on here that have been given self serving advice. In future, if you decide to hire a lawyer, please speak with only qualified immigration lawyers. Or come here, because these guys know

Not that it really helps now but usually the official answer can be found relatively easily on the IRCC website, in this case scroll down the page and you will see a statement about the 5 year rule in the become a sponsor section

Maybe he can apply for pr through another program? Or you can go be with him until your eligibility is good.

A visitor/tourist visa could be an option to explore so that he can be with you in the meantime.
