I have a multiple entry as a tourist visa for canada. If I stay here for 6 months, then I go the US. Will I get a new 6 months stay in Canada?

You might or you might not.

If you want to stay in Canada longer, you are better off applying for an extension to your visit from within Canada.

What do you mean by "might or might not"? Who can decide then?

The immigration officer decides. You might just be allowed back into Canada for the length of your original stay, you might be given a new visit (the length of this visit is up to the immigration officer and could be anywhere from a few days to six months), and there's always some possibility you might be refused entry.
