Hello everyone.

My mother was a PR in the 70s and 80s for about 15 years. She lost her status due to R.O not met. This year she regained her status through parent sponsorship(PGP).

I mean, she meets all the requirements but the big issue is the 20 year undertaking. I believe it leaves her with OAS but no GIS.

Can she be eligible for OAS + GIS?

Thank you

Well that's an interesting question...
It would seem that if she was newly sponsored, she'd be ineligible, but since she's already lived more than 10 year in Canada, she might be able to claim.
"
If you moved to Canada as an immigrant
If you are an immigrant who is sponsored
If you are a sponsored immigrant and have lived in Canada for less than 10 years after age 18, you cannot receive the Guaranteed Income Supplement while you are sponsored unless your sponsor:"

Not sure that loosing your PR status totally negates any previous time in Canada. I would assume the sponsor obligations would negate previous status, but it isn't clear. I'd make an appointment with a tax attorney to look into it before applying, so you don't end up with a surprise invoice due to your sponsorship. I'd love to hear how this works out.
