Calgary is nice and beautiful. A good place to live. Calgarians are pretty helpful and friendly. The city is well connected by local transportation such as buses and C - Train. Good to have a Car though as waiting for long time in bus stand for buses to arrive can be stressful in harsh winters. Also having a vaid class 5 driver's license is a plus.
Nowadays the oil prices are low and this may affect the job prospects here in Calgary but you never know when the the oil prices will jump up.
There are several programs provided by the immigrant serving agencies such as CCIS, YWCA, Directions for immigrants in Bow valley college, CIWA which the immigrants may pursue. There is a waiting period of 3 to 6 months for some programs as they want to see that the applicants had tried to get a job in his own field in this waiting period but could not get it. Also the applicants must go through English language assesment (ILVARC) free of charge in Calgary for determining their CLBA score and get an acceptable CLBA score to get admission in a particular program as per the program's requirement..
Survival jobs paying around 10 to 16 dollars per hour such as Cashier in grocery stores, Meat cutters, Pizza makers, Cleaners, Snow removing Personnel are easier to get. Drivers and Security guards jobs are also high in demand here.
Volunteering jobs are easier to get.
