I completed all my forms by hand (in 2010) as lots of words were too long to fit in the box when typed and the text didn't wrap so i would think this would still be acceptable. Good luck
You can add things by hand like "present" for the to date. However, it is best to fill them out electronically by completing the form (save the form to your computer and you can go back to finish it anytime).
Forms like the IMM0008 *must* be filled out electronically so you can validate them and print out the bar codes encoding all your information.
Are you updating the forms for an existing application or starting a new one? Just making sure that if yu are starting a new one, you'll need to gave arranged employment or be in the PhD stream since the caps have been reached (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/skilled/apply-who-instructions.asp). We're expecting a new year to start in July so don't give up if you aren't eligible quite yet ... Just stay on the lookout for the new Ministerial Instructions.

You're welcome! For national identity document you can either put a date far in the future so that the form validates and then cross it off on the print out and put n/a or you can say you have no national identity document so the form validates and then add in the information by hand. It's one of those weird field.
