I was wondering if anyone knows how is the processing time for obtaining PR for spouse outside Canada? I'm on a OWP and if I put my wife as an applicant accompanying me to Canada, is it the same time as my PRs processing time or is it more? My wife's in Pakistan. Rossie, you may have an answer because your wife is in Bangladesh as well. Please help someone. THANKS!

What I meant was there is a difference between sponsoring you wife when you are an immigrant/citizen over putting her in the same application while you apply for your own immigration (say PNP). And sometimes the sponsoring times differ for different countries (say India sponsoring time is 6-8 months and say PNP takes about 12) then of course it will take the same or less amount of time. But what happens to countries like Pakistan where sponsoring time is about 20-26 months and PNP is still 14 months. The processing time it takes for spouse's immigration is the sponsorship time or the PNP time? I hope I didn't make it more confusing.

Well I am not an immigrant/citizen . I was nominated by Saskatchewan in student category and I included my wife when I applied for me. So I was in work permit.
Coming to your second question, it depends on what category applied and which visa office. If you are applying under PNP in buffalo, USA, then it's going to take same 13 months no matter u Pakistani or Indian. But since you are from Pakistan, there might be more scrutiny in ur case(pls don't get offended bro, this is war I heard) bur in the end u should get it in 13 months.
But if are sponsoring her which is a different category , then it will take the time they say in the website based on which country u r..

Thanks for the reply man. No I am not sponsoring her. I'm applying through Alberta nominee program and including her in my application so that she gets to be an immigrant too. She's in pakistan and I am living in Alberta right now. The only thing is I want to get her over here and as soon as I can, but not through visit visa.

When you applied for immigration, did you include your wife? Is she an immigrant now?

Yes I got married july 2010 and I have applied for visit visa and got rejected. Then in sep I have applied for nomination for me and my wife as my dependent. Rest of my time line is on the left . U can check that. Me and wife sent our passport to buffalo and now today I found in ecas that decision is made which normally means they stamped PR visa insha Allah.

If your file get transferred to Ottawa then can even get your immigration in 3 months. So pray for that. Not everybody is lucky though. Nowadays buffalo takes 10 months. Good luck.

Nope, I haven't started the application. I think I'm going to take a chance and apply for a visit visa and if she can't get that then will apply for PNP.

Anyway, does any of your wife processing happened in India? What I mean is did the file went to India for background check of your wife or any other matter? Because if it didn't, that's probably where you save time (which is not the case in sponsorship I believe).

Thanks
Sam

Nothing goes to India.. everything comes to you... even medicals request comes to you.. then you send it to her inpakistan by courier.. then she have to do it with one of the doctor there and the doctor will sent it to Ottawa.. Thats the only thing happening in her country and rest will be with you.

If you are applying for visist visa make sure she includes enough stuff to make it look like your wife is going to go back ... You have to convince the officer that she will will go back as soon as the visa expires.. so one good thing is if she have a job , then get vacation letter from the employer so that theyt hink she will go back.. second show enough property/bank balance she have... make enough ties to the country she is living.. majority of the rejection is that he/she dont have ties to the country... Apply for 6 monthss and not more than that. and later after u come ehre u can extend it..

One more question sinpguy.. what do I need to show to prove my marriage is not fraud when I apply for immigration? Obvious one is marriage certificate. Anything else? Did you show anything else to prove its a real marriage? Thanks!

I missed out a lot during my absence here.

Anyway, I've just quickly skimmed through all the posts here and sinpguy is right. You are supposed to include your spouse when you are applying for immigration unless she doesn't want to immigrate to Canada. This is nothing like sponsoring or regular visa application. Everything will be done via you since you will be the principal applicant and time will be same as it's specified in your visa processing centre (i.e. Buffalo).

You include whatever is required in the application checklist. I've already mentioned that it's not same as regular visa application. I know that wives have to provide pictures, videos etc. whatever applicable to prove the marriage believable to the VO from their home country. You will probably not require anything more than a marriage certificate (if it's not in English, it needs to be translated and certified), and/or 'Nikahnama' (I think you know what I mean), her birth certificate (during PNP application) and copy of her passport (later you will need her original passport for Visa stamping here).

FYI, don't apply for a Visitor Visa for her during your immigration process. There won't be any chance as it will prove that she wants to stay here permanently. If you want her here, make her apply for visa before you finally send your application to Buffalo.

Let me know if you require more info.
