Hi guys, do you know how long the background check usually takes?

I just got my GCMS notes and it turns out they just sent my BG check files in October (after 20 months). Also, do you know if having been born in the wrong countries can make the processing any longer? :D

Hey,

I have been following this forum for a long time but I have never posted anything. But now I have question and would be really glad to get your opinion on it.

So here is my situation. I applied to buffalo for QSW in Jan 2011, medical done on 11-July-2011, went in processing on 18th April 2012 and transfer to ottawa on 7th July 2012.

I am planning on getting married coming dec to a non-pr/non-citizen and I am not sure if I am going to get the PR before the wedding. So do you guys think its better to hold off the wedding until I get the PR or should I still get married and then add the spouse on to my application? In the latter case any idea on how much more would my application would be delayed if I add my spouse?

Thanks a lot!!!

I believe someone mentioned that if you are to sponsor your spouse there are some new laws now. You might want to check on that. Nobody can determine how much longer it could take.

Hi, I have the same situation. I am also a july 7 transfer. Apparently, I am on a waiting list in Ottawa.
If your wife can come to Canada without a visa then I would suggest that you don't get married before you are a PR because getting married would complicate the situation and make you wait even longer. that's my understanding. If she needs a visa to come to Canada then the whole application will practically start over because CIC needs to do all the checks on your wife also. BG, health, etc. If she is a nurse or she has a job that's on high demand in Canada her file will be processed with priority.
good luck.

I would also recommend same, wait for PPR and then get married or else it will take longer to process your app. with your spouse info.

hey most of the applicants are stuck in the same case, there is no end to this wait but if we get married at this stage, wait will go longer.....more than that wife is going to have only temp resid for 2 years and after tat she will get pr or else u have an issue......

if u apply at this stage i think your current status os gng to be her case and then u hve to file differently fr her.....so its jst wait and wait.

rest ...........make up ur mind.

I would have got married if I were you.
If it was last year, I might have said like others.

But since no one really knows how the game is gonna work, I would never suspend my life for a PR thing.
I mean, in living a personal life, immigration comes after you. It is among the top items, but not the few first.

This is a personal issue. Do as you regret less. If you have made up your mind with marriage, don't hesitate because of PR. this might go for a long time.

In either cases, you would have tough times making your spouse here. it would take almost the same amount of time.

What is the worrying part, is it the timeline that it might cause your PR to delay ? Compare the timelines of when you are going to apply after you are a PR compared to now and see how much different it might be. As of now, we cant say when anyone of us will get PPR!
