I am British and want to marry my Canadian partner in Alberta Canada but we intend to live in England. Do I need a visa to legally marry in Canada?

In England you have to apply for a fiancée visa and then a spousal visa which doubles the cost. If we marry in Canada we can go straight for a spousal visa.

Anyone know what we need to do?

Others can comment but do not think there are any restrictions for anyone visiting Canada that stops them from getting married in Canada, no special visa and as UK citizen you are visa exempt so just a matter of getting the length of stay you need when arriving plus an Alberta marriage licence.

Marrying a Canadian citizen does not give you any rights though to stay in Canada, for that your spouse would need to sponsor you through the spouse sponsorship program.

Note that generally for a citizen to sponsor a spouse from outside Canada it would be expected that there is a plan to live in Canada once the application has completed so if you plan to live in UK spousal sponsorship would probably need to be put on hold.

Assume either of you has googled the marriage process for Alberta

Bear in mind that getting the marriage certificate in Canada is not like the UK, where you get it at the actual time of marriage. It can take a while.
