Congrats, wish you a nice flight to Canada! :)

Shaon and Tegnus.... BC is just waiting for you both lucky guys to welcome...... All the very best and stay in touch

Congratulations Tegnus and Shaon. It must be such a relief to have THAT behind you, but does it seem suddenly small, compared to what lies ahead? I see Cam putting together a Toronto group....perhaps a Vancouver Group is in the future, too?

It was a beautiful spring day in Vancouver today. Sun was warm and there are all sorts of yellow and purple flowers starting to bloom. I was out walking with my neighbour and noticed something unusual. We were waiting to cross the road and the approaching car slowed down for us long before the crossing sign. A little while later, when were were waiting by the side of the road another car stopped for us and we were nowhere near a cross walk. We both commented to each other about it and wondered if everyone is in shock with the tragedies in the world and as a consequence they are being kinder to each other. It felt like last winter when we were hosting the Olympics. Everyone was smiling and greeting strangers, making all the visitors feel welcome. I hope this gentleness continues.....

Hi Pipin

It is nice to hear from you. I would really love to meet you guyz over there. Only the Almighty knows where we will stand in the course of time. But even though in our heart we will follow our well wishers. We would always keep in mind that this is our world and we will have to build it for ourselves and for the future generation to come.

We must not forget the tragedy, rather we would take lessons from that.

It just shows how fragile life is. Material things are only icing in this life of ours. I pray for the Japanese, the victims of war in the Middle East.

Hi Heatspine,
I agree with you. Material things are just nothing. We take years to make them and can loose them in 1 minute.

Let us keep praying for them.

Lets keep hoping for the better days ahead.

On Sunday, they held a Pray for Japan special service at Christ Church Cathedral in downtown Vancouver. The church was packed. A candle light procession down the aisle and at the alter a Cherry Blossom tree hung with paper cranes. Even though the media focus has shifted to the troubles of other people, we have not forgotten what Japan is going through.

Missed the congregation but our hands are here to join in the same prayer..... to alleviate all sufferings on mankind in Tokyo, in Christchurch........

I now live and work in Vancouver.

An average 3 bedroom apartment (1500 sq ft) in Vancouver area is approx $1600 to $2000 a month to rent. To rent the same size in the suburbs, Richmond, Surrey, Abbotsford, Delta etc is approx $1200 to $1600 per month. Utilities for an average 4 person family are about $200 per month, cable (depending on how many extras you buy in the package) $150 per month but that does include the landline telephone. Cell phone plan for a family of 4, unlimited texts and calls ( a must with teenagers) approx $150 to $200 per month. House insurance for contents $50 a month. Food is expensive, again depending on the size of family budget for between $100 to $200 per week.

A one zone transit pass (this gives you travel in Vancouver only ) $84 per month, 2 zone (lets you travel further ie from North Vancouver to DownTown) $134 a month.....3 zone...forget it...get a cheap car....you will save money.

Jobs in Vancouver.....not good unless you work in either the film industry or high finance. Yes there are jobs, in fact loads of work but mainly on the lower end salary of $10 to $14 a hour.

Truth is, Vancouver is a beautiful city, the climate is perfect the environment unbeatable, the prices are stupidly high.

If I had to choose again or start over, I would not land in Vancouver unless I had loads of money to start with or a well paying job already lined up.

As another poster stated, start somewhere else and work up to moving to Vancouver.

Thanks Angel for sharing some useful info on living and scope in Vancouver....specially from your real life experience...

Hi everyone.

Sorry I have only just seen this thread. We are planning to land in Vancouver end of August/start of September 2011 and are looking to move permanently to Canada around January 2012.

Hope to meet some of you there!

Wayne.

Basically a tourist destination has to be expensive
