Hey,

My fiancé is Canadian, living in Canada and we plan on getting married in the UK in June with the view of living together in Canada once married and applying for the sponsorship visa once over there.

I'm totally out of my depth here and there are a lot of things I currently do not understand:

- Does he need to get a visa to get married in the UK as he is Canadian and if so does anyone know how thing this process takes?

- What are the chances of us entering Canada once married without any sort of visa for me and being turned away?

- What are the waiting times on the sponsorship visa, and is it possible to apply for it while staying in Canada or will I have to go back to the UK (I know I can only be in Canada for a maximum of 6 months without a visa)?

- What is the process for getting a medical examination / how long does it last for until it expires?

- I imagine I will not be able to work until the visa has actually come through, is there any additional hurdles I need to know about in this regard?

If there is anything else that we should know, please do let me know - as much information as possible would be very appreciated!

Thank you loads in advance!

Natalie

What age are you? Would the IEC be an option?

Usually people with a UK passport don't have many problems. You can come to Canada as a visitor, and will most likely be let in with no issues. You should bring any proof of ties to the UK that you have, proof of money, proof that you have started the PR application (you can pay ahead of time, and use this receipt as proof you have started the application, even if you have not sent it in yet). You probably won't be asked for any of this, but it is good to have it just in case. You must be clear that you are just visiting. Having a return ticket with a specific date is a good idea - you can always change the return date later.
You will probably be given 6 months to stay by the border agent. About one month before this is up, you can apply to extend your stay online.
After you have sent in the PR application, CIC will ask you to get the medical. You have to go to a panel physician, which is a doctor that is approved by CIC to do the immigration medicals.
