Nope, not as a Permanent Resident - but you can apply for a Canadian passport when you become a citizen.

You have to wait until 3-years after becoming a Permanent resident to apply for Citizenship. It takes about a year or more to process a citizenship application. So, you will be eligible to apply for a Canadian passport 4-years after you become a PR, as long as you apply for citizenship.

So in the 4 year waiting span , can I go on holidays maybe for 2-3 weeks out of 1 year without it interupting the time for Citizenship ? And does the DUAL Citizenship still stand for Brits ?

Baloo, clicking through on the link you provided took me to a Calculator that calcucated when I'd be eligible for Canadian Citizenship based on the time I've spent in Canada so far.

I was quite surprised when it told me I'd be eligible for Citizenship on 11-12-2012! Heck, at this rate, I'll be eligible for Citizenship before I even get PR LOL!

But I think you will find that you need to be a permanent resident before the clock starts running.

Actuallyt you can get half the credit as long as you are here legally.

I have been on a work permit of one kind or another, since 2002, and my citizenship counter only needs another 2 years before I can apply. so COME ON, give me my PR!!!

Cheers
H.

Canadian citizenship requires "physical presence" in Canada. So if you went on holidays for 2 to 3 weeks outside of Canada during the time you are eligible to count your days towards citizenship, you would need to subtract that 2 to 3 weeks spent out of Canada from the total, even if it is just a holiday. However, it won't affect your eligibility as long as you meet the overall total days requirement.

You are right, when you are with a Canadian spouse the time is counted as though you are in Canada.
