He pretty much just avoided explaining himself and said 3 of 5 years is what he feels is correct. He didn't fight to justify it at all.
I'm a PR of almost 2 and a half years, been in Canada for 4 working in Oil & Gas and paying large amounts of tax to the government. I appreciate the whole Bill C-6 is much bigger than my individual case and by no means am i trying to make this about me, i just feel that this shouldn't be as difficult as the Senate are making it out to be.
Take the route of a student coming to Canada to study in University would take:
4 years in university (unable to use the time spend in Canada towards visa)
approx 1 year application for permanent resident application (unable to use the time spend in Canada towards visa)
work for 4 years as a permanent resident to obtain the right to apply for citizenship
wait approx 1 year to obtain citizenship from CIC.
That's a total of 10 years and is crazy!!!
