As the one who started this thread, I'll give my update. I applied jointly with my wife on May 28. Two days ago (Oct 15) my wife's BOWP was finally approved!
At the same time, mine was cancelled. :
However, I was expecting mine to be canceled. In mid-September I was working in Canada on implied status and still waiting for my BOWP, and at the time it was looking like a never-ending wait. Then something came up where I really needed my health coverage. Imagine my chagrin when I found out there is NO health coverage while on implied status. My employer offered to give me a new work permit to get my health coverage back, and since I didn't know how long I was going to have to wait for my BOWP I decided to take the new work permit and sacrifice my BOWP. It would have been another long month with no health coverage otherwise. At least my wife now has her BOWP, which I'm happy about.
Being on implied status is a risky thing. No health coverage and you can't leave the country or you lose all status. If CIC just processed the BOWP in a timely manner it wouldn't be much of a risk, but we all know that CIC processing tends to be anything but timely. Anyway, at least we know that BOWPs will be processed, eventually. My wife's took 141 days.
