it's because they have already bought the place they end up with, and have already moved in or are in the process of doing so. someone i used to work for was a realtor on that show with her clients. it's completely staged!
Whaaaa!! On the international House Hunters or House Hunters in general?! :O

Anyone watch Australia's Border Security? Anyone notice how so many foreigners (even from developed countries) often get in trouble with the Australian immigration due to not having a visa? I find it a little bizarre that Australia requires citizens of pretty much almost all countries on earth (New Zealand is a rare exception) to have a tourist visa.

See, Canadians don't need a visa to visit the US, most of Europe, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Hong Kong, and so many more developed countries (for up to X amount of days). And citizens of these countries (including Australians!) don't need a tourist visa either to visit Canada for up to X amount of days. One would think that citizens of these developed countries (especially fellow commonwealth citizens) don't need a tourist visa to visit Australia, but apparently they do...which is precisely why in ABS, you'll frequently see people (even from developed countries) get denied entry (and deported!) due to not having a visa... Oh my :D. Canada needs to start implementing a reciprocal policy by requiring Aussies to have a tourist visa too for visiting Canada :p

Yep I have watched that one more than the Canadian one bc I watch BBC more than Slice (which is where I found the Canadian version).
That sucks for anyone wanting to visit there. Especially bc Canadians and Americans aren't use to having to get a visa just to visit a country. Which is why probably so many of them get denied for not having a visa bc they didn't know you need them to travel (if they're not familiar with these things).

Yes unfortunately, volunteering is something that no countries would allow tourists/visitors to do....because for them it's not only a matter of the visitors "taking money away from their own citizens", but "taking *opportunities* (paid or not) from their own citizens"......and if I remember correctly, in one of the Canada Border Security episodes, even an officer told a British guy (who was visiting his Canadian gf) that helping around at her house (even if unpaid) (such as painting walls, doing chores, etc) wasn't allowed O.o

Volunteering is a fine line. I just started a volunteering job for 3 hours every Sunday at a cat shelter. But I think it's only possible because everybody there is a volunteer and there is no risk of getting paid illegally. I'm obviously not taking a real job away from a Canadian. I'm cleaning litter boxes and feed cats ;-)

Changing the subject a bit i watch house hunters international ..My question is how come these people always seems to move to all these other countries with ease lol

That's what I think all the time. They move all over the place but nobody ever talks about getting the visa and stuff

I never had problems crossing the Canadian border. Not even four weeks ago when I left Canada after my work permit expired. I flew to the States for a week, came back, he looked at my expired work permit, my visitor record which is valid until September, asked where I stayed in the States, no questions about my stay in Canada and then placed a 6-months stamp in my passport.

But I was paranoid after watching Border Security so many times. So I was prepared with a bunch of documents but didn't need them :D

If I remember correctly, that guy on Border Security wasn't told by officers that he couldn't even wash dishes; the girlfriend's mother said that. The officer told him he wasn't allowed to help them renovate/build/paint.

When it come to volunteering, if it's not normally a paid position and there are Canadians doing the same unpaid work, it's safe for a visitor to do.

Here's a link that explains it fairly well http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/institutions/work-volunteer.asp

If anyone wants to watch it... http://www.free-tv-video-online.me/internet/#B

Any ideas why season 1 episodes 1, 2, 3, 4 aren't available? :)

I love that show and I think it'd be a really awesome job to have.

Thank you for clearing it up. I was fairly certain doing dishes or volunteer work wasn't a problem. I could not find the episode however.

Just depends if it was posted by another website (the host website). If you search Border Security Canada season 1 episode __ (whichever episode you want to watch) you should be able to find it SOMEWHERE. Just be careful of course which links you click.

I don't know about awesome... cause I would feel bad for some people. But I think it'd be interesting to see everything from their perspective.

I looove that show!

To be honest I found the Canadian one a bit boring, as it's mostly just people trying to sneak into Canada to stay permanently, or people with a police record or something. The Australian one is my favourite, since you see some craaazy drug busts on it!

Also, just for the record - I am a Canadian citizen with nothing to hide and I am scared of the immigration officers in Canada! They are very, very serious.

There was a thread about this show last year (or maybe the year before?) when the show first started airing. So I know we have lots of watchers here. :) My husband is obsessed.
May I ask why you were denied entry? and what happened after?

My wife expects to come to Canada within the next few weeks, and is planning to carry two to three 100-200 gram bags of roasted peanuts (with shells, in commercial packaging). And as far as I know, roasted nuts *are* allowed to be brought inside Canada.

1. Do they still have to be declared?

2. And once a customs officer sees the declaration on the card, would he/she open the luggage for inspection then? (what a hassle... >_<)
